Do you think Cell chirps like a cicada? Or any other type of bug? Like maybe that's his thing, with all the weird stuff mixed in with the Saiyan genes, instead of turning into a giant monkey when he looks at the full moon he just starts chirping. (I wonder how long he feels compelled to keep doing so?)
There has been no canon behavior to support this. I've seen lots of personal HCs on him having insectile behavior, however I disagree with most of them.
He has Saiyan cells, Namekian cells, Frieza race cells, even HUMAN cells. And yet, he's walking around sporting insect like armor. As for WHY? There are several possibilities.
If you'll recall, King Piccolo spit out several children before Junior. And some of these children (Cymbal is the most obvious that comes to mind) did not look at ALL like how a Namek typically looks. His appearance could be similar in this regard. A mutant genotype hidden within Piccolo's DNA carried over from his father.
Another possibility, and the one I feel is most likely, is the genetic splicing that Dr Gero used to create him.
Science, just like nature, although sometimes faulty, is seldom wasteful. He has both Frieza race and Saiyan predisposition to extraordinary power level boosts as well as the Zenkai. He has Piccolo's regenerative capabilities (on a much more potent scale) (I suspect that Frieza's ability to still survive after being cut in half comes into play here). Logic dictates that Dr Gero would be quite capable of isolating ONLY the armored quality of an insect.
His upper body armor mimics the basic shape of Frieza's bio armor in first form. Gem included. The rest of his armor could be genetic manipulation of this. I would also point out that his first form has 3 toes like the Frieza race. Frost from dbs has booted feet, so it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility for this to account for Cell's armored feet. He may very well have NO insect DNA.
His stinger is the main indication that he MIGHT.
After all of that nerding out, I dont really think he does. But IF he does, I'd think it was cool as hell 🤣
We rarely see him at night. And when we do, he's incredibly restless. To the point of taking flight. Just as an insect might. The possibilities are endless.....
