Epilogue (Twelve Months Later)

Claire sat up in bed slowly, careful not to wake Jamie who was sleeping beside her. It was still dark outside and she tilted her head to the side as she strained to hear the noise that she thought woke her up in the first place.

A suspicious tinkle hit her ears and she slipped on her house shoes before retrieving her dressing gown and following the sound into the living room. She spotted Fergus’s mop of hair in the soft light emanating from the lamp they left on all night and smiled at how young he looked crouched beneath the Christmas tree, its coloured lights illuminating the lines on his flannelette pyjamas.

“What are you doing up so early?” she asked softly and Fergus turned around, a horrified look on his face. It was quickly replaced with a sweet smile as he stood up and Claire’s eyes narrowed slightly in suspicion.

Kunimi Akira’s birthday is fast approaching, and young witch student Kindaichi Yuutarou fears for his best friend’s life, knowing he must undergo a dangerous trial within the Hell Dimension of Hinokoku once he turns eighteen.

With nowhere else to turn, he asks Demon Hunters Oikawa Tooru and Iwaizumi Hajime for help in taking down the sadistic House of the White Rose before it’s too late.

Meanwhile, Yahaba Shigeru finds his studies for the witch license exam rudely interrupted by the arrival of a certain Hell Hound, and the demon Hanamaki Takahiro tries to get the handsome witch tutor to fall in love with him.

The Vainglorious Journey

The moonlight spilled silver over the gardens, its delicate beams touching the fading foliage and the stalks of verbena which perfumed the air. The sounds of music and chatter provided a muted backdrop in the distance, punctuated with bursts of merriment as Hux stepped forth into the courtyard, his heart hammering against his chest.

Ben stood gazing out into the distance, his profile breathtaking in silhouette. The dry leaves crackled under Hux’s foot and Ben turned, his mouth parted slightly in shock. He was as beautiful as Hux had remembered, with his strong nose and lush lips, and the powerful  breadth of his body. But his eyes were also wary, rimmed with a darkness below.

“Ben.”

The familiarity of the greeting seemed to stir something inside the prince. “Protocol dictates that you address me as ‘Your Royal Highness’.”
