[unsaid: and i was planning on marrying her. i was going to take that shit to the grave.] -> and if you don't have any context for hunting it does kind of sound like they had an incestuous love affair for years.
which they did. and this is what they're talking about, really. THE SECRET is the enmeshment of hunting and the unseen dangers of the world and the way they grew up, motel to motel, tangled up in each other and constantly on the move. with nobody except each other. THE SECRET is dirty and dangerous and vulnerability-inducing. how could you tell cassie about THE SECRET, dean, i thought i wasn't allowed to tell anyone about THE SECRET, i was good for once, i followed the rules, dad's rules, i kept it, why didn't you?
Because I know they're going by the name of Sonic and that's their vessel, and they'll do a few things to seem... normal??
For example, I know you mentioned that Rewrite can lift up a boulder, but will pretend to struggle and not be able to lift it, unless they feel like not pretending for a minute or something.
But what about other things that are just not so Sonic like?
Would Rewrite start swinging or pretend to sink and drown?
Would they say their favorite food is chilli dogs despite not needing to eat?
Just small things like that, I'm genuinely curious 😁💙
i think rewrite is verryyy committed to the bit when they have 0 rings. like it's almost compulsive, as they know it's what they need to do to lure more people in and be liked. and if sonic doesn't act like sonic, it would be far too obvious that they're not sonic. so yes they would say their favorite food is chili dogs. also i think their game does have a drowning system so they could drown, yes. but they would just respawn. there are a few notable differences, like rewrite is pretty cruel, uncaring and manipulative even with 0 rings.
also i think rewrite would use some of sonic's quotes like "Gotta go fast!" or "You're too slow!" and "Hey, I'll play with you some other time!". and copy sonic's victory animations. yknow. like sonic adventure 1 (youtube link). which is really funny to me.
but once rewrite gets even one ring, i think they start letting the mask drop and want to start acting like themself more. they don't care as much about maintaining the sonic persona; though they still will, they just don't care as much about doing things sonic would never do. their sense of self is starting to build to the point they don't compulsively act like sonic.
i don't think rewrite genuinely believes they literally are sonic, but i've seen several interpretations/aus where rewrite thinks they literally are sonic. and don't realize they're not until they get more rings. part of the no self awareness of them having 0 rings. which i think is a REALLY interesting idea. but in clockwork, rewrite knows they're not actually sonic, even with 0 rings
Sure hope nobody makes an ao3 fic abt them with the title being a pun about their names (robin = a bird, Caelus = heaven/sky) that would be soooo stupid.
