About the Linked Universe x Genshin Impact AU : History (part 2)

As I said in the previous part, Ganondorf is the new cryo archon and is trying to free his father from the Abyss. Now, he has to be discreet about this, because if the other archons realize what he's doing, they're gonna seal him in the Abyss. So he periodically sends abyssal shadow copies of himself into the other nations to distract them. These copies are nicknamed "Ganon Shadows" and they're almost like regular monsters, except they're pure abyssal energy, really powerful and can think to an extent. The goal of those shadows is to cause as much damage as possible to the land until they're defeated, so that rebuilding takes the attention while Ganondorf accumulates enough power for the next shadow. The shadows are often helped by the fatui harbingers.

Of course, the six other nations are angry at the cryo archon and they want to make him pay. But they can't. Why? Well, the archons don't think these shadows pose that great of a threat, if they can be killed by mortals, so they rarely intervene. Also, Snezhnaya's military forces outmatch everyone else's, even combined. And it's the most influencial nation economically, so if they go to war, the economy will crumble, and the nation leaders do not like that.

Now, let's go back to the Ganon Shadows. I'm sure we all know where this is going.

Every time a Ganon Shadow arises, a hero defeats it. These heroes are chosen not by the gods, not by their peers, but by circumstances. Chance, one might say. Some heroes have defeated more than one Ganon Shadow, like the hero of Legend or the hero of the Wind. Three heroes have faced the most powerful Ganon Shadows to date, but only one of them, the hero of the Sky, stood victorious; the others, the Silent hero and the hero of Echoes, were sucked into an abyssal rift and disappeared (they're fine I promise).

Some of those heroes have had more than one adventure, and it wasn't always a quest to slay a monster; for some, it was stopping the rise to power of a fatui harbinger, or waking up the sleeping electro archon, or clearing the fog of Tsurumi island and bringing peace to the ghosts within, just to name a few.

There’s no denying: it’s been tough sledding for the Canucks since the last edition of PosCan. The team added a mere two wins over the past month and players are struggling to maintain a positive mentality – a far cry from the infamous preseason ‘good vibes’ we heard so much about. Thankfully, the Olympic break is here, providing a few weeks for everyone to reset before entering the final push of the season.

Here are some of the good crumbs from this last bunch of games!

THE GOOD STUFF

After being out for three months, Teddy has had great production since re-entering the lineup (against the team that took him out, ironically) on January 21st. Since then, he’s been on a near point-per-game pace with 7 points in 8 games (4G, 3A) and two 2-point games, finding solid chemistry with Liam and Conor. We’ve dearly missed him as a dependable bottom-six center and steady PK-er. Here’s hoping he stays hot into the Olympics!

Sporting an 11-game losing streak, January 21st marked the Canucks’ annual Pride Night game. It felt like our orcas needed some magic to pull out a win... Well, magic they got! Alert the league: the Canucks won a hockey game! 

Perhaps they accrued some good karma from players using pride tape during warmups? After only three players used it last season, we had a pleasantly-surprising jump up to 14, with a large contingent of that being our young guys. You love to see it.

Of the minimal offense produced during this period, a good chunk of it came from our baby (as in 22 years old and younger) orcas. They’re doing everything they can to keep the team in the fight. (It’s often not enough, but hey! They care and they’re trying!)

From games 42-57, Liam had 2 goals and 2 assists, Zeev had 1 goal and 1 assist, Willy had 2 goals and 2 assists, and Lekki had 1 goal. Besides watching them find ways to score with our anemic offense, it’s even more exciting to imagine what they could all develop into over the next few seasons. Walk with me: a Zeev-Willy top pairing. Childhood teammates Liam and Lekki on a snipers line (with Cootes as their center?). Sprinkle in some elite prospects from this year’s and next year’s drafts and suddenly the team’s future could be the envy of the league…

Don’t worry, there was some good stuff for our older guys in this stretch. Petey scored the lone goal against the Sens on January 13th, pushing him into 10th all-time in franchise goals at 198 (breaking his tie with Thomas Gradin). There’s still plenty of season left for him to climb at least one spot higher.

Brock FINALLY broke the longest goal drought of his career the very next game against Columbus (with a Petey assist, of course). He had the lone Canuck goal that game.

Best-dressed Canuck P.O. Joseph tallied his first goal as an orca against Vegas (after his initial goal was called back). And Mama Joseph (surely where he gets his style from) was in attendance to cheer him on!

Nikita Tolopilo has once again been called upon to step into the big club’s goalie tandem, and he’s been doing an admirable job. In the six games so far of his ongoing call-up, he’s posted a .917 SV%, including a 32-save team shutout against the Ducks on January 29th that technically isn’t his first career shutout because Kevin Lankinen went in to make one save (but it’s his first NHL shutout in our hearts!). He should get lots of opportunities to continue developing in the NHL during the remainder of the season as Tolo Time continues!

Has your coach pulled your goalie, despite your team being bad at scoring at 6-on-5? Are you about to be the victim of an empty net goal? Not if your 1C is Elias “goalie” Pettersson!

Our Petey is known for defending the crease with his shot blocks, and has some history as the actual guy in charge of keeping the net empty — he used to play goalkeeper in soccer, and showed up to hockey practice in goalie pads after watching Henrik Lundqvist lead Team Sweden to an Olympic gold medal.

Still, you don’t quite expect to see your number one centre all but drop into a butterfly while standing his ground in front of the empty net, which is exactly what Petey did against the Devils. He ended that game with a 1.000 sv%, for those wondering! Thank you for your service, Goaliesson 🫡

The last-place team scores an empty-netter to secure a win over a non-premier opponent on a rainy Thursday night, just their sixth home win out of twenty-six home games. You wouldn’t expect a story like that to end with the home crowd chanting for a championship, but the Canucks and this market are never what you’d expect!

Whether that’s exciting young players or a fun product on the ice, this fanbase will find the positives if they are given the opportunity. Canucks fans are proving that they are more than capable of handling a rebuild – they just need something to believe in.
