Finally finished up an oc I’ve been meaning to design for literally over a year LMAO, especially considering how much their actions effect my other ocs

An antagonistic force and an old friend of Skribble’s!

I should probably mention that Jan had a slight redesign and also post Phoenix’s ref here as well lolol. What’s funny is she had two other palettes before this one. I really struggled with choosing a palette that really suits her

I’ve been slowly chipping away at their rewrites and it’s a little messy so I need to Lock In and smooth out the finer details lolol

I will talk about their inspirations and motifs though because they draw from a lot, namely Thanatos/Hypnos (and lowkey the Keres’ for Nix), yin and yang, rain and thunder, etc etc, they are meant to complement and also contrast each other. They are also meant to be symbolic foils for two more oc pairs because uh, lowkey those were accidents LMAO

Both phoenixs and butterflies symbolize rebirth which is why Jan has a butterfly motif as well, it was present in his old wing design but I decided to play into it more with his redesign !!!!

Ghostwalker did create them with the idea that they complete each other in mind, there’s a bunch of things I want to experiment with the origins of their spawning but I’ve yet to decide on what I want

Some artwork I did for a loan shark/mob group that resides in Crossroads called The Hunt 🫣

I intended to make an actual slideshow explaining their lore but college really burnt me out at the tail end of their conceptualization and finishing up their lore lmao

But might as well show them cause I’m still super proud of their designs

Extra details below

In order from appearance we have:

Cheque/Ruby: Rubyhorde the Rapacious’ Treasure Gear

Snare: Seashell Snare Gear

Lure: Go Fish Gear

Because it was a loan shark group they generally have a fish/fishbone theme going on :))

The Hunt used to be a huge threat some 20 years ago, but have since been significantly weakened since the efforts of my oc, R-Orb, who is a retired Banlands officer. Since then though, they have regrouped and are slowly occupying the darker corners of Crossroads.

Cheque is their leader, and the other two, Snare and Lure are her two closest confidants and her clean-up crew should a client spend too long paying back their debts to the group :)))

^^^ These two are also involved! Feather (Dark Pegasus Gear) is a Banlands officer who had looked up to R-Orb before their retirement and has since become their ‘successor’ in a sense. Meanwhile, Key (Portable Justice Gear) is R-Orb’s daughter! Feather is currently on The Hunt’s trail, though the group seems to always be one step ahead of him….

WOW. What a wild ride, huh? After taking a long time to process the finale, I finally churned out my piece for it! Even though I only started watching BFDI a little less than a year ago, it’s been real fun! And I got to see the end of BFDIA! Yay!

I’ve never drawn so many characters it was kinda scary…but it was fun!!

Anyway! This is for Jan’s spawnday, which is tomorrow!! I’m thinking of doing a Spawnday-esque QnA video to explain some of his lore, or just. Begin a yap sesh on his lore lmaooo. I’m a little hesitant to do it since Jan’s lore is far from canon-compliant as I included themes I love to see in characters and writing so sjdjsjns I’ll need to work up the courage 🥹

Sketchbook dump!! Thought it’d be cool to show ya’ll how I conceptualize my designs and how it looks visually. I think my sketchbook process has gotten a lot better/visually appealing when I started embracing my mistakes and messy lines when I’m first getting the feel of a character. Some of these characters have digital references already! They’ll be shown off in full (+lore!) when I’m off exam week.

I’ve been having a lot of fun with my sketchbooks now when I saw them as blueprints rather than the final product, and I feel just doing whatever on the page is a really stress relieving process! And while I’m usually hesitant to show my ‘imprrfect’ art, I’m really proud of these pages and I’m excited to share them lolololloll

Jan’s spawnday is coming up real soon (April 22), and I’ve made this spread to commemorate, the second half will (hopefully) be more lore-heavy than this one!

I have one post discussing a little bit of Jan’s lore when I returned to the Phighting fandom, but with my return, I did overhaul/rewrite a lot of my old ocs’ lore, so that post is like. 50% accurate to Jan’s lore now. So I’ll also probably share some of Jan’s lore on his Spawnday :3
