It's so goddamn LONG. Very much in the "when the hell am I supposed to have the time to edit this" realm. At least this one has chapters, but I've been writing longer in general enough that I'll probably have to change my editing process to make it work.

I needed to de-stress during exam season once, so I sat down and wrote out a scene that would later come to be the opening of this fic. Here's a bit of it:
He sighs and doesn't let his eyes close, reaches for the pack of cigarettes on the nightstand instead and listens to the water turn off. The bathroom door creaks open and he keeps his eyes on the ceiling as he pulls one cigarette out and spins it around his fingers.
"Those are mine," a rough voice says and he involuntarily clenches again, remembering everything it's told him tonight.
"Tough shit," he huffs, but the memory of those groans and whispered praise might fuel him for days if he doesn't end this wrong, so he keeps just the one smoke and closes the rest of the pack.
He throws it towards the bathroom without looking, even closes his eyes at the choked off noise and doesn't open them again until the front door clicks. Then he puts the cigarette back on the nightstand and goes to clean up himself.
He takes another, longer shower when he gets back to his housing. Washes off more than the sweat and cum, tries to scrub off the dirt of the motel room before it rots his skin, tries to boil the empty feeling in his chest before it starts digging out a permanent space.

I'll do this one for future ghosts: First of all, the concept behind the fic is inspired by two of Val Kilmer's movies - The Saint, because I really love it and its identity stuff (I don't think I can justify calling it a full crossover, but it has the spirit of one), and The Salton Sea, again for its identity stuff.
Secondly, a big theme is the idea behind this working title, which I once saw explained as like... apparitions you're seeing and being haunted by in the present time, but they're actually people who are alive in the future. And the more direct meaning - someone who will become a ghost. Someone you know you won't be able to let go even after they leave, someone you know wll haunt your memories.
