You don't know it yet, but like her mother, her way of dealing with vulnerability is treating it like combat. She rests her prosthetic arm on your waist, her other arm tightening around yours on the other side. Only a hint of sweat in her palm alludes to the fact that she's not as calm and confident as her steady hands and piercing gaze might suggest.
She leans in and meets your lips slowly. Hers are chapped and dry, and loose strands of red hair tickle your nose.
When she leans away, her eyes are so much softer than any other time you've seen them, and her cheeks have a very faint flush. Her way of covering that moment of vulnerability is to go for another kiss, this time deeper, more certain.
