Why was it necessary to say she had a psych degree as if she was hiding the biggest secret of her life.. I don't get it... K cool, so do a lot of uni students and most players in the past had psych degrees and every other degree.. Having a degree doesn't determine a win.. Like correlation doesn't mean causation

Use versus Utilize

Have you noticed that "utilize" it's getting used a LOT these days? It's like someone decided that they needed a fancier way to say "use" and somehow "utilize" makes you sound smarter!

But not if you are using the word incorrectly!

Does this drive me bonkers enough I decided I needed to write a whole post about it? YES.

Use is what you do with a thing according to its intended purpose. eg. I used the bat to hit the ball.

Utilize is when you do with the thing something NOT intended for its purpose. eg. I utilized the bat to break the window.

Or, to make it more fun:

I utilized the word utilize when talking about using something for its intended purpose because I thought it sounded better.

i finally watched the Green Knight and I fucking loved it, oh my god.

it's reminds me of the very "matter of fact" storytelling in tristan & isolde or in Beowulf, thing's just "are". I really enjoyed it!

It's also very slow!

But I do felt I understood Gawain's character a lot. It's definitely a character driven plot and not a, well, plot driven plot. Gawain makes all his own problems, pretty much. Poor guy.

I wonder why some people insist on either treating the word “human” as either a noun (it’s an adjective mostly), or as something all-encompassing and deserving of a capital letter. 

It looks wrong. I can grit my teeth and take it when it’s used as a noun (e.g. “a human” rather than “a human being”), but I must draw the line when I read something like “Craig is Human”. That is incorrect, “human” is not a proper noun, it is a descriptor and nothing more. If you want to make it impressive, say “Tellurian” (or the more often seen “Terran” if you prefer). But don’t add a capital to an adjective...
