unexpected (& exciting) turn of events
yesterday was our 20-week ultrasound. the event itself took about 45 minutes. the ultrasound technician carefully measured the circumference of lovie's head, arms and legs, watched blood flow in and out of all four ventricles of the heart, measured the length of the neck... and eventually determined the gender. as luck would have it, lovie was in a cooperative position.
when she said "you have yourself a very proud little boy!" chad and i nearly exploded. we were so sure that our little lovie was a little girl (probably because our acupuncturist confirmed again and again that the pulse was 'girl' for the entire first trimester). i asked if she was positive that it was a boy and she said "i'm as certain as i'm legally able to be", which i thought was a pretty certain answer, so i didn't figure i needed to restate the question or anything. the truth is, neither chad nor i could make sense of most of the ultrasound images - besides the ones that look just like a teeny-tiny little baby outline. once dr. crowe saw the images (later that morning) she exclaimed "there's no doubt, that's a bold little boy you've got!" so clearly the images are impressive...
for the last month or so i've been asking chad, rhetorically (and incessantly), "what if it's a boy?", but neither of us really believed it was possible. isn't that funny? of course it's possible!
our little lovie is a BOY!
he's also very healthy. he measured in the 53%, which makes us both extremely happy.
it's such a funny (and humbling) feeling to have this change of perspective halfway through the pregnancy. 24-hours later i can honestly say i am absolutely thrilled to be having a boy. absolutely thrilled.
...now we just need to come up with the perfect name! xo
