Even as his fingers touched against his forehead, Sasuke knew Itachi was dead. He stood, frozen in place, eyes bulging wide, as his beloved and terrible brother slipped from this world. His hand falls limp to one side, and Itachi’s body falls forwards, missing Sasuke by an inch. Instead, Itachi's head smacks hard against the concrete wall. The sound is unmistakable and unforgettable; a dull wet crack to signify his broken crown. It lingers in his mind long after.
Sasuke's eyes trail downwards, unwilling but unable to look away. His brother lies crumpled in an undignified heap, with his legs bent at awkward angles, arms limp and dangling, and his head cocked too far to one side. Blood pools beneath him. An uproarious clap of thunder heralds the ending, and Sasuke smiles. There's nothing close to joy or humor in this. His is the face of death and dark delight, and he smiles, for soon, he they will be reunited in hell.
