This is probably not true, because I know for a fact that there have been quite a number of books I literally couldn’t bring myself to finish (usually because the main characters are either assholes or spineless, or because the prose made me cringe), but the one that sprang to mind immediately is Metamorphosis by Kafka. I had a visceral negative reaction to the part where he turns into a fucking bug (it still makes me shudder to think of it, and it’s been 20 years!), and I had to finish it because it was for school.
Talking books I was forced to finish: There was also Eugénie Grandet by Balzac, which I read for my final oral French exam in highschool. I actually went to the teacher and begged her to let me choose another book (we had to prepare three), because I hated the protagonist so much. When she wouldn’t let me, I knew the book would be part of the exam - and indeed, I was asked to explain why I had wanted to drop the book. Even back then my French was mediocre, but I ranted quite passionately about what a doormat Eugénie was. :)
hey the scene you just reblogged of wentworth miller and russell tovey is from the flash season 4 episode 8. it was the best scene in the show so far imo :P
Oooh, thank you - will have to look that up! (I’m not following that ‘verse at all, but I’m so there for two kick-ass superheros making out!)
ETA: And here’s the scene (warnings for severe cuteness! *g*):
itachi86 replied to your post “I’m halfway through season 1 of The Magicians, something for which you...”
i know what you mean. i actually watched the show first before reading the book and really didn't like the book. the show is great though. i quit for a little while after season 2 but had to go back for quentin and eliot. i love their interactions so much. and i love quentin his floppy hair and nerdiness are great.
I’m curious to see how things develop - hopefully quentin will grow on me more, but I like that it’s an ensemble show.
captain pan and all the SFW ones for the shipping meme
Oh! Yay!!!! :D
Who cooks? Killian, unless he desires the apartment building burned down then Pan cooks.
Who’s the messiest? The cleanest? Pan is the messiest by far but also the cleanest, for he organizes the messes to where they make sense in an odd way. Kind of like a play Eloise, by knowing everythings place when its a mess then not knowing where things are when it's clean.
Who fixes the vehicle after a breakdown? Killian, Pan just keeps kicking it until it starts.
Living space has a leak! Who fixes it? Killian for the same reason as above.
Who buys the groceries? I'm going to go with Pan, because I see him as having a picky-ish palette, but also open to new things for trying/buying, where Killian would purchase the same old-same old
Going out to eat: Who pays? Who orders the most food? And who has dessert? Killian pays and groans internally (sometimes externally) as Pan orders plate upon plate because 'he is a growing boy who needs extra nourishment' is his excuse especially when ordering a second thing of dessert. He allows Killian a bite or two of it though.
Would they go to the beach? Killian loves the beach, where Pan is iffy about it. Killian yearns to go for serenity when Pan only obliges if it's a 'bathing suit optional' area, because thats just how he rolls (and it might lead to sandy car or bathroom sex).
Who knows how to swim? Who doesn’t? Killian knows how to swim where Pan knows somewhat. He has the basics of float and doggy paddle, but as for diving and strokes he doesn't know. He prefers the sturdy ground under his feet than a vast salty (or chlorinated or muddy) liquid deathtrap surrounding him on all sides.
Is someone multilingual? Do they try to teach another language to the other? How does it go? Killian is bilingual-ish. He has the basics and necessities down for French, Spanish, and Irish with a tad less of Italian. He knows these languages from his travels through eastern Europe and other places he journeyed to during his childhood. Killian teaches some phrases to Peter like: Si mon tonton tond ton tonton, ton tonton sera tondu in French (meaning If my uncle shaves your uncle, your uncle will be shaved) and Eres tan patético, que resultas entrañable in Spanish (meaning You’re so pathetic, you’re actually entertaining). That second of which Pan uses relatively often, often against Killian himself.
Any pets? Or plants? Pan own two cats even though Killian is the one who takes care of them while Pan only ever sleeps and plays with them. The oldest cat is about four years; it is a black and pink Sphynx named Curly because he always like to curl his tail. Pan particularly like him for how he scares guests and every once in a while he can hear Killian just go "Oh, shit" when he forget that they do infact own a hairless cat.The second and youngest cat is almost one according to guesses and is named Shortstop. He is a calico colored munchkin thus the name, Shortstop. Pan got him from a shelter when seeking a friend for Curly. Then Killian owns a blue colored Orchid while the only plant Pan owns is an empty, soil filled pot he claims will grow poisonous thorns one day.
Baths or showers? Together or separate? Any bubbles or bubble fights? Both, both, and both basically, haha.
Can they stand silence? Who talks the most? Who talks the least? Killian enjoyed silence but then once he met Pan and realized the only time the boy was ever quiet was when they were fucking or he was sleeping. Ever since they moved in together the times when it is quiet make Killian nervous and a little sad because it means hes alone.
Who stays up late? Who sleeps the most? Does the other have to force them to sleep/wake up? Killian stays up later than Pan most nights. Seeing as Pan is a morning person at heart so he ends up sleeping the most because Killian is a night owl who doesn't hit the hay until early in the morning at 3 to five. So after maybe three hours of sleep for him Pan wakes up and starts bouncing on Killian's chest at seven in the morning yelling for food after Killian only slept four hours or less. Killian promptly groans and demands sleeps, but Pan won't have it. So Killian does get up only to chugs cups coffee and pass out on the couch in the afternoon while Peter is out.
Who is the highest maintenance? Does the other mind? Pan is high maintenance mostly because he is picky and controlling with a terrible temper. Killian is okay with it most of the time and will submit to him for whatever, but every once in a while (either from lack of sleep or sheer annoyance) he'll revolt and end up with laughter in his face and/or at Robin's for the night.
Vacation ideas: who decides them? Where would they go, if anywhere? They don't go on vacation much due to lack of money for expenses and the inability to mutually decide on where to go. Killian want to go to anyplace with vast plains of open water and culture where Pan want to go hunting or hiking or mountain climbing inland, just away mostly from civilization.
