Minka itado

The itado we use in our bedroom are original to the minka, and were originally used in the middle room. They have crayon and drawings on them from the children who we guess studied against them after school 100 years ago.

With many other scratches and wear marks, we also considered replacing them, but instead decided to give them a light refinish to bring back some of their natural, aged look.

The New Itado

After three months of preparation and a few weekends of scraping, sanding, and painting, my Christmas gifts are in! The staff at Kofukuan were amazingly helpful in preparing this set of doors to fit in our minka. This set of itado consist of two different pairs of Showa-era doors. As they will also form part of a bedroom wall, we didn't want all of them to have a glass insert, but we also wanted to let some light into the room. So with help from the staff at Kofukuan we were able to combine these two different sets of doors. They look fantastic, and make such a difference to both the guestroom and the entrance area of the minka. Thank you Kofukuan.
