"our love is a little formless but it'll do"
hello I have stepped into the "rarepair" hell that is itayoshi / yuupei and I will not get out
Itajun soulmate au
A world where you are born being able to only see the world in black and white. And you start to see the colours when you first meet your soulmate and you can only continue seeing them if you consistently spend time together with your soulmate. So if you separate, you will go back to seeing the world in monochrome.
So Junpei is pretty used to seeing things in their bleak boring versions. It's fitting for the depressing existence he is leading anyway. After all the things he has suffered he finds it hard to believe that he will actually be able to see colours and meet love.
Mahito is a curse who manipulates souls and one of the way he "grooms" Junpei onto his side is that temporarily he can deceive Junpei's soul into thinking it has found its soulmate and it lets Junpei see colours. The experience is groundbreaking for him. It feels fascinating, even if he knows it's not real. Junpei is so sure he'll never find real love that this fake colour-scheme seems like the best he will ever deserve. But he feels like he needs to stay by Mahito's side and follow his instructions in order to maintain those colours. And when he sees the bluish white illumination of his shikigami he is even more fascinated. He doesn't want to lose it.
And then he meets Yuuji for the first time and he immediately realises how perverted Mahito's perception of colours was. The fake version is nowhere near the real one. Everyone is so bright, colourful and happy. It is too much, even.
And knowing that in the end he does have a soulmate is even more liberating. For the first time Junpei thinks that maybe he deserves real happiness just like other people do. He is not worse than anyone and he is not destined to live his life in loneliness and misery.
He is a bit scared of Yuuji and first, but he quickly warms up to the boy and realises how nice, kind and special he is. Yuuji is thrilled about finding his soulmate so unexpectedly. He cannot bear to spend a single day without seeing Junpei. He constantly comes over to Junpei's place or they meet in the city. Yuuji tells him about jujutsu and introduces him to his friends from school.
Junpei confesses he is a a jujutsu sorcerer, too, but he is afraid to tell Yuuji about Mahito. He is scared that Yuuji will judge him for getting involved with a curse, and especially accepting to see the colours through his soul manipulation. So he keeps quiet about it, but he cannot throw Mahito out of his head. He is afraid of what the curse can do to him. He often feels his presence just around the corner, but when he looks around, there's no sign of the white hair.
One day, when Junpei is home alone, he finds Mahito in his house. Mahito taunts him and talks about how lonely he was without the boy. He is upset that Junpei was not coming to the gutters anymore. Was he not grateful to Mahito for awakening his shikigami and showing him the colours through his curse technique. He makes fun of humans for being so attached to their soulmates and being so useless without them by their side.
While Junpei tries to fight or to run away, Mahito tells him about how Yuuji is set to be executed and it will happen sooner or later. One way or another he will die because he is Sukuna's vessel. And then Junpei will be alone again. Or maybe Sukuna will hurt Junpei himself. How would it feel to be destroyer by practically your own soulmate.
Mahito is still just toying with Junpei. He wants to see him desperate and trembling in fear. In the end he knocks Junpei out and kidnaps him to his hideout. He looks forward to Yuuji realising his soulmate went missing, finding him, and then seeing him melt into some formless mass and die. Mahito is ecstatic about the idea.
Unfortunately for Mahito's dumb ass Yuuji doesn't come alone, he shows up with Gojo and Namai and all together they jump Mahito and annihilate him out of the existence. Junpei is unharmed, everyone is safe, Junpei tells Yuuji about his involvement with Mahito, but he of course is not mad with him. They hug. Junpei transfers to Jujutsu Tech.
Happy End

“This is going to kill you in about three minutes,” the enemy sorcerer says, looming over Yuuji. “Do you have any last words?”
Yuuji’s eyes widen and he draws in a rough, shuddering breath. His heart aches and his mouth twists into a smile.
“Junpei,” he whispers. “I missed you.”

Soo, chapter 7 is now up thanks to @savvs-diary and her support <3
When Kugisaki and Fushiguro found Yuuji the following Monday, it was a miserable sight for their eyes. Yuuji was slumped in his seat, arms stretched forward over the desk, phone placed in front of his head which he was continuously banging against the hard, wooden surface. They exchanged a worried look before approaching him. “Itadori?” Kugisaki spoke carefully. “How did the date go?” Fushiguro all but collapsed in the seat next to Yuuji. “What did you screw up?” Yuuji didn’t look up, “I don’t know,” he groaned while continuing to smash his head between each word.
