I was just gonna drive around until I found a stray. There's tons of them. (Besides all the shelters are run by criminals. I can't afford any turf wars.)

Another day, another time.

Chiara had started an habit of coming to his house, not to see him, no, God forbid, but she had become attached to Marielle as fast as anyone could say rabbit. The Italian was sitting on his couch this time, a movie had been on the television but right now only the credits were rolling, and Marielle was once again on Chiara’s bosom, very awake, her little nose moving everytime Chiara ran the long, sharp nails, albeit softly, on her fur.

A chuckle, some words whispered through a sly smile, that’s how they mostly communicated nowadays. And of course, they were coming from Chiara this time. Gilbert himself only rolled his eyes, trying to not smile to whatever had been said and leaned towards her, placing a quick kiss on her jawline before standing up to get himself another beer on the kitchen.

[All in all, he does not want to really go, he just finished cleaning a whole house and there is still a window to fix - but he cannot do anything about that today, everything is closed so the glass will have to be replaced tomorrow. He hopes the plastic will be enough. Then again, he supposes, it would be worse to just stay there. The thing is, he is not leaving his animals alone anymore for a while, not when he just witnessed that some people have no notion of reality. They are going with them.]

[Give him some time, and there he is, in front of Chiara’s place, knocking, along with four dogs, a bird, a cat and a rabbit. Are you ready?]

[There were many ways for someone to test the durability of a lipstick, many. You could eat and see how much was left, you could rub your lips on a cloth and see how much stain it left. Many ways. So it is at least curious that Chiara decided to test it by pressing lips with Gilbert.]

[It is very difficult to pretend he is not shocked and maybe a bit bothered by it, but after the first moment he sort of, maybe, not really, kissed her back, his lips pressing against hers, head tilting ever so slightly to the side so the lips could fit each other better.]

[It is short lived, and he quickly pulls back after only seconds of that slip.]

Sending him a present is too much effort for how many birthdays he's had. She sends him a cute picture of a baby crow and the text 'Happy birthday.'

That is a very practical way of thinking and Gilbert can respect that, specially, when all things considered they weren’t the closest people to have ever interacted. 

Nonetheless, the picture of the baby crow pulls out an ‘aw’ from his lips more than the wish of a happy birthday. The phone is quickly pulled so to send the message.
