Post mass effect AU does Catra’s number in the Heiarchy stay the same? Considering all she accomplished in the war it would be hard to surpass her accomplishments. Especially as she continues clean up efforts. Does she get to keep the apartment too even if they’re not always at the citadel?
So one thing to keep in mind is that rank isn't just "you're the most accomplished", it's also a job title. So like think of it as AB00004. That means you're the fourth highest in the entire AB tier, with the first A being army and the B denoting the job title within the army branch (major general for instance). This is completely made up bullshit identifiers but just so you can get the gist. Catra is absolutely one of if not the highest for any A rank/job that she inhabits, but she's not suited to be over in C as an agriculturist, yknow
Catra was basically #2 in the military branch by the end of the war, that's why (well, part of why) she ended up in the Council seat while the Council was located at Earth. She worked to get Junipurr's rank up in the diplomatic branch so she could replace her, because it's one of those things where it's better to have four years of experience in the applicable branch than 10 years in another skill that's related, yes, but not the exact same thing.
Catra takes a "demotion" from Major General simply because that was a wartime promotion (it's normal to have ranks in the military that literally don't exist outside of war, so afterwards the people in them get "demoted" and it's not seen as anything bad. this isn't that exactly but it's the same vibe), because the role really was only meant so she would have authority over any troops she meets in the field during that mission. Now they're past a crisis, she still overall needs to be able to issue orders since they're on important missions, but her having that high of a rank without dedicated units under her command would be unheard of outside of war. She could very well keep the major general title if she wanted, but then she'd have to like, actually operate within the hierarchy and command units from magicat vessels/homeworlds and not constantly be on missions with Adora, so AC00001 suits her just fine instead. In the military branch she's very high rank, but her job title is lower than before.
With the line for the throne, that's a separate line determined partially by rank and partially by additional factors that could never be captured with a rank (such as the fact Catra doesn't know shit about magicat culture). clawdeen is #1 and catra's still basically #2 rank-wise, but their cousin (who was like, number 3 or 4 or something) stepped up to take the role since she was actually on Palaven. catra starts slipping as they figure out who is still alive, people distinguish themselves as touchstones of the people in the post-war rebuilding, and time passing from the war makes Catra's military experience less relevant than cultural knowledge. If the queen needed to be replaced, ideally the number 3 overall ranked would take it, but otherwise it is likely Clawdeen would take the throne and Catra would become the military Primarch because, again, diplomacy is not really her skillset. Not because she can't do it, but she doesn't want to lol. she probably stays in the single digits for the secession line, but other experience gets prioritized over her
because she's so high rank and did so much for them, though, the apartment does stay with her (and adora). technically it previously always belonged to the primavera and was loaned to other high-rank individuals visiting the citadel as long as they didn't conflict with someone higher, but catra basically gets ownership of it for the rest of her life or until dishonored demotion, and then it will go back to the primavera after that
