Ithiel de Sola Pool
Ithiel De Sola Pool was born in 1917 in New York. He earned his PhD from University of Chicago in 1952. He directed a research program on the effects of communication technology on global politics in MIT Center for International Studies. He was one of the political advisers during Cold War. He contributed with 24 books and hundreds of articles.
Pool recognized the importance of change in technology and communications in a time where things were constant. In his article Technologies of Freedom (1983) he showed how he had vision on how technology can transform the way in which we live. This point was specifically made clear when he pioneered at the notion of convergence. He made it so clear that through convergence one can gain freedom and break all man-made restrictions. He has foreseen that in the future (our current time), the technology advancements will allow one’s use to control technology other than having limitations of technological advancement control one’s use.
