I, Too, Arts Collective: restoring & reclaiming the home of Langston Hughes

I, Too, Arts Collective is 10 days into our fundraising campaign. We’re so thankful for the support and generosity that’s been shown over the past two weeks. We wanted to shout out two supporters Karla Robinson and Dr. Ralleigh for their donation and encourage everyone to keep giving and spreading the word. We also want to share some “behind the scenes” moments with you. Yesterday we filmed our promotional video on the stoop of Langston’s brownstone. Poets, artists, educators, and community members came out to read poems and talk about why reclaiming this space is important. What happens to a dream deferred?      Does it dry up      like a raisin in the sun?      Or fester like a sore—      And then run?      Does it stink like rotten meat?      Or crust and sugar over—      like a syrupy sweet?      Maybe it just sags      like a heavy load.      Or does it explode?

I, Too, Arts Collective is a nonprofit organization committed to nurturing voices from underrepresented communities in the creative arts. Our first major project is to provide a space for emerging and established artists in Harlem to create, connect, and showcase work. Our goal is to lease and renovate the brownstone where Langston Hughes lived in Harlem as a way to not only preserve his legacy but to build on it and impact young poets and artists.
