Without even fully opening his eyes, Sae reached out from under the blanket and shut it off.
“…Too early,” he muttered. “It’s annoying.”
“Sae, seriously, we’re going to be late,” y/n said, sitting up slightly.
y/n was his girlfriend. They’d been together for a year and a half, and she still hadn’t figured out how he could be so calm in the mornings… or so impossible.
“Then go,” Sae replied, like it didn’t matter at all. “You’re the one who cares.”
There was a pause. Not the comfortable kind. The kind where she looked at him like she expected something softer, something else, but Sae just stared back, unbothered.
“…you always do that,” y/n said quietly.
“Do what?”
“Act like nothing matters to you.”
Sae didn’t answer right away. He shifted slightly under the blanket, turning his head toward her just a bit.
“You think too much,” he said finally.
y/n let out a small breath, frustrated. Not really at him. More at herself for still caring this much when she knew how he was.
“Just today…” she said after a moment, softer now, “but tomorrow you have to go to school. Promise me, Sae?”
That made him glance at her again.
He didn’t answer immediately. Just looked at her for a moment like he was deciding whether it was even worth arguing.
“…you’re annoying,” he muttered.
“Yeah, I know.”
A pause.
Then Sae sighed, barely noticeable, and shifted closer without making it a big deal. Like it wasn’t a choice, just something natural.
“…fine.”
y/n blinked. “That’s it?”
“Don’t push it.”
His arm rested loosely near her now. Warm. Close. The space between them gone without either of them acknowledging it.
“Happy now?” he asked flatly.
y/n gave a small, quiet laugh. “Not really.”
“Tch.”
But he didn’t move away.
The room stayed quiet after that. Soft morning light. Warm sheets. No urgency anymore, even though there probably should’ve been.
“…five minutes,” Sae said, already closing his eyes again.
y/n smiled a little and leaned back into the bed.
“Okay.”
And for once, neither of them rushed to leave it.
