Unconventional Sweethearts (ITP!Spring Bonnie x Chubby!Mother!Reader)
Hello, everybunny! I have another reader-insert fic, one where it might be a bit more domestic and fluffy! I'm vaguely aware of what happens in 'Into The Pit' (both bookwise and gamewise), but I saw the fandom concept of domestic pittrap and i thought 'oh hell yeal'! Sit back, grab a snack, and enjoy the fanfic.
Synopsis: You are a hardworking mother, attempting to keep you and your son, Liam, alive. You work a job at Jeff's pizza, both as a delivery woman and as the closing-shift janitor. You make just enough to get by, and you often have to take your son to work whenever he doesn't have school. But one day, he starts screaming about some yellow animatronic he saw in the ball pit! But you only see what looked like a human... How odd.

A sigh escapes you as you woke up in your lonesome apartment. You rub your eyes as you blink, stretching as your bones pop and crack in a satisfactory manner. Elevating yourself up, you put your slippers onto your feet, your pajamas still tarry and loiter over your figure as you rose from your mattress. The form of your body appears in the mirror upon your vanity night stand, soft and rotund. A feeling of doubt had haunted your mind, as you assumed that you had let yourself go. Recollection of what you used to look like before you met your ex had invaded your mind amidst the mildew of morning. Oh, how you used to be so youthful, vernal and extendable... But you had no time to ruminate on your past. You had work! So you briskly trot around your room, you prep your hair into a simple bun, change out of your pajamas and into your work uniform, and you travel from your bedroom to the kitchen to grab a quick meal.
Your son, Liam, was sat in front of the TV, his mind vacant while he was watching a cartoon of sorts while devouring his cereal. That was the most common food you had within the apartment: inexpensive, affordable junk food. Either that or pizza. You had an employee's discount for Jeff's Pizza, and that was the penultimate thing you had aside from whatever sustenance you could afford in the market. Reaching into the fridge, you grab a slice of leftover pizza, and heat it up in the microwave. After you finished eating, and when your son was done with his breakfast, you both got into your car, ready to go to work.
Ah, your car. A noble steed of steel and fiberglass. A rather trusty vehicle despite how lethargic it went on the road. A gift for your 16th birthday, and the most expensive thing you own. You get in the car, buckling your son in the backseat. It was a Sunday, so you didn't have to take Liam to school, meaning he was going with you to Jeff's pizza. Ah, that was a common occurrence. Take-Your-Kid-To-Work day felt like it came almost every other day, perhaps because it was lavish luxury to hire a babysitter for Liam. Either way, he was still going with you.
Taking Liam out of his car seat, you walk into Jeff's, and you clock in. You hand your son 5 dollars, just enough to acquire some tokens to entertain himself in the arcade while you were out doing deliveries. You used the vespas that the pizzeria had, since you were obligated to contractually. Those cute little motorbikes were rather swift, far more expeditious than your old hunk of metal that was your car. You rode about in the neighborhood, rendering the orders, darting to and from Jeff's as you take pizzas and drinks, and hand them to the right addresses. Just another day, and just enough money to pay for things.
When you return at the evening for your janitorial duties, Liam sprints out of what seems to be a spare room, just adjacent to the arcade. Screaming. Sobbing. Frightened. Liam immediately rushes over to you, his arms wrapping around you, a vice as he stuffs his head into your side. What happened? You thought that he could be left alone here! After all, Jeff was here and so were a few other employees! But your answer came far more quick than anticipated. Liam immediately breaks out into a babbling, swift-speaking mess. He was speaking a mile a minute! But you manage to understand him, he's had breakdowns similar to this one before, so you understood his gibberish fluently.
"Mama! Mama, there was this ball pit, and I went in it and- and- and I saw th-these really really REALLY BIG robots! That's not all, there was this giant yellow rabbit one that was chasing me! Mama you gotta believe me!"
What? A yellow rabbit animatronic? Last time you recalled, Jeff's didn't have any animatronics, let alone anything that fit his description of ginormous robots. Your son couldn't be lying, not when he was this distressed over a sigh. Willing to comfort your son, you wrap your arms around Liam, giving him a comforting hug, not sure whether or not to believe he's lying, or to agree with him being honest. After all, he seemed so panicked, terrified by the hypothetical automatons. He had to have seen something in order to cause such an explosive overreaction.
"Uhm, sure! Don't worry, sweetie, mama will protect you," You assured Liam, patting him on the back.
You left Liam alone with Jeff, so that he doesn't go into that weird ball pit again. With how much of a breakdown he was having, you would have left Liam at home or took him back there, but again, you didn't have any money for a babysitter. So Jeff himself was the next best thing. You swept up floors and mopped, cleaned windows, and took out the trash, simple stuff. However, while you were in the back, you felt... Watched. As if you were being stalked.
A set of eyes leering on you that you couldn't see, a gaze that would not shake off of you, no matter how hard or desperate you attempted to shake it off. In a sense of panic, you attempt to run from the alleyway dumpster. Without looking, you trip over one of the steps that lead up to the back alley entrance, your face nearly giving the ground a friendly hello. Although, something stops you from falling. Or rather, someone. Your eyes flick upwards, gazing into the eyes of whoever caught you. You don't recognize them. They're new. And they're exactly your type.
At least, that was what you and the other adults envisioned. Because Liam saw the truth, that the man you were looking at was none other than the yellow rabbit animatronic he aforementioned prior, Spring Bonnie. But to everyone else, he was just a rather charming, polite looking man, one that dearly won your heart over with little to no struggle. Your eyes sparkle, your heart lumbering itself in your throat as it races, and you felt magnetic, attracted to him the second he catches you.
"Are you... Okay?" He helps you up on your feet, his hand dusting you off in a tender manner.
A burning feeling rises to your face, the heat making you feel warm and ample. The inferno was burning beneath your skin, a storm of emotions brewing in your mind as you had to keep yourself composed on meeting such a handsome stranger. "Oh, uh, yep! I'm fine," you smiled, your hands clasping together as you stand up. Holding out one hand, you decide to introduce yourself, "I'm [your name] [last name]! But please, do just call me [your name]."
The man smiles, tilting his head while you had spoken. His behaviors were a tad bit uncanny, however it was the more miniscule details that catch you off guard: his head tilting a bit too far to the left, his smile being wide but never reaching his eyes, and how his tone felt... Off. No real reason nor rhyme behind it. It sounded too human, like something else was attempting to appear human that was trying far too hard. But, his personality, his kindness, had settled you easily. A balm over your paranoia.
His eyes look at you, rather kind, yet still preternatural. "Ah, a lovely name for an equally lovely woman." He croons, his gaze roving over you, taking in your appearance in an appreciative manner. "I'm Thomas Davis. But do call me Tom if you wish."
Tom. He was an interesting fellow. Quirky. Kind. And he looked just ravishing. He would probably make a great partner for you, and a better step-father for Liam. What? No! No no no! You had to focus on working, and taking care of your son! Not fall in love with a stranger. But, something far out of your understanding, something supernatural, made you feel unfocused and wanting to just be trusting of Tom entirely. You knew better than that, though. He wants your trust? He's gonna have to earn Liam's trust, first.
Speaking of Liam, you remember that you son was still in the pizzeria, and that you were outside it. You shake your head, your eyes widening to the size of dinner plates. "Oh, crap! It's late, I gotta take my son home and make dinner!" At that recollection, Tom stops you from dashing off, but rather leads you into the building. One of his arms interlocks with yours, the other resting at his side.
Tom seems to be fond of you, taking a grand fascination in you as a person. He doesn't want you rushing like how you were prior. This was possibly due to him wanting you to avoid injury or accident. How kind! Your eyes sparkle within the lighting of the pizzeria, butterflies already flitting and fluttering about within your insides as you look at Tom. His gaze turns to look back at you, his eyes staring deeply into yours. Not gazing. Staring. He doesn't blink, not even when you have to. It's unsettling, yet enthralling to say the least, knowing that he can keep eye contact with you for such an elongated period of time.
"You... Bring your son to work? Interesting."
"Oh, yeah. I don't have enough money for a babysitter," You explained, rubbing the back of your neck as your gaze darts away from Tom. It was embarrassing, but you hated lying more than having to explain your life. "I would leave him with his father, but he doesn't really have one. Not anymore, at least. My previous partner, he... Wasn't a really nice man. I had to leave for the safety of me and Liam."
Tom's expression drops to a bit of worry, almost solemn. Oh. Well, the truth does indeed hurt. Tom holds you closer, his arm now wrapped around your hip. "He won't hurt you again, I promise," he swore, his eyes emitting this deep, blue glow that you hadn't noticed before. Did Tom's eyes always glow that shade of blue? Let alone, glow at all? It didn't matter, because you decided that maybe taking Tom home wasn't the worst choice. Far better than your ex.
Within the confines of your home, you manage to fix up dinner. You managed to get some extra tips, so it was a real meal. Pork roast, macaroni and cheese, and some canned collard greens. Not the most fancy of meals, but it was what you could afford at the time, and Tom seemed to like it for the most part. Your son kept looking at Tom, Liam's gaze distrusting, discomforted at the new man you had brought home with you.
A sigh leaves your lips. You would explain it later to him once you'd have tucked him to bed. Maybe he'd understand, maybe he would require some time to get used to the new person living with you. Tom said something about applying to become a mechanic later within the month so that you wouldn't have to work two jobs at once, and bless him for that, he was darling. As night comes, you tuck Liam in, and explain that Tom was a good man, but he just freaks out about the yellow rabbit again, causing you to turn on his nightlight and put something on the radio for him.
After night, morning comes. The sunlight dances through the window as the bright smile of the sun itself is revealed to you. A yawn leaves your lips as you lift yourself from the bed, although you don't see Tom just yet. That's when it hits you. That smell. It's breakfast, like actual food kind of breakfast. Not pizza. Not some cheap, off-brand cereal, but actual breakfast food. Liam didn't know how to use the stove, so you knew that it had to be Tom. Weird. You didn't carry breakfast food in the house, on account of rarely having the money for it, but curiosity gets the better of you, as the scent trails you out into the living room.
Low and behold, there was Tom. He wore a denim jumpsuit, one that you noticed from the mechanic's shop in town. He must have gotten that job rather quickly. Your eyes also notice that he was making breakfast for all three of you. How kind! Liam, Tom, and you all eat breakfast together, chatting about and generally being a family. For the first time you've ever had Liam. He wasn't like your ex. Far from him. He was nice, he never yelled at you or Liam, he didn't have violent outbursts that lead to either you or Liam getting hurt. Tom was perfect.
While you were on your way to work after dropping Liam off at school, you hear on the radio that your ex, Jacob, had been found... Fatally injured. Found with claw and bite marks all over his body, bruises on his face, even two of his fingers were missing from the whole ordeal. He was taken into custody for a mental hospital, because he kept raving about some yellow rabbit with sharp teeth, thrashing about and sobbing. Yellow rabbit... Huh. You remember Liam saying something about a yellow rabbit. Back at Jeff's. It was odd, certainly to hear such details, but you shook your head. Your ex was as good as gone from your life, and you wouldn't let something as small as that coincidence get to you. Not to mention, that now your ex would stop calling you constantly, berating you over the phone with threats and other spiel of whack-job nonsense.
Yet, you felt nuanced about this situation. Sure, you didn't like your ex, that was obvious. Jacob was a rude, cruel man. But you felt concerned when you heard about his injuries, the mention of some of his fingers going missing and the raving responses he gave out didn't remedy that vexation that lingered within you. That concern never left, a parasite in your peaceful life. Oh, well. You would have to just live with it then. At least until you would have shoved the memory far back enough in your mind.
Your shift wasn't any different from any other. Nor were any of the following days, with how things had been going so smoothly. Eventually, you were able to just stick with pizza delivery alone, with how much Tom had been making at the mechanic's shop! Your life was inverted, as you were no longer struggling, single, or living in fear of your ex coming back to harm you or Liam. Everything seemed to have changed for the better, as your living situation grew positive with each day.
But all of that would soon change.
One night, you awoke. Frigid. Alone. It was the deep, dark night, within the shivering evening of December. You had been with Tom for at least a good couple of months. Ever since March or May, at least. But you awoke late at night, Tom no longer in the same bed as you. You softly call out his name. No response. You call his name out again, louder this time. Silence. A frown soon haunts your face as you crawl out of bed, rubbing your eyes as you look at the clock. 12 AM. Weird time to be awake at. Maybe Tom got thirsty?
Ambling through the halls, you look for any sight of Tom, and you didn't call his name out of worry that you would awaken Liam. You saw something, but... It wasn't Tom. No, it was far from Tom. Rather, it was a giant shadowy figure, one that looked far too organic looking to merely be an animatronic, yet too robotic to be entirely flesh and blood. It was lumbering, hulking, having to crouch slightly just to hobble about in the apartment. It's footsteps boomed, an echo ringing out lowly within your apartment. It's glowing blue eyes look at you, it's sharp teeth formed into a grimace, but it was one of what looked like guilt. Worry. Like it didn't want you to see it like this. Its lagomorph ears twitch, as the glowing blue eyes revealed one key detail that never truly left your mind, not since Liam had that breakdown in the pizzeria. Yellow fur. He was the yellow rabbit. But when he spoke, it caused you to freeze more than the temperature outdoors.
"Ah! M-My love! I apologize- I'm sorry for waking you up, truly I am..."
It spoke in Tom's voice, with the same inflictions in his tone and everything in between. So, this was Tom? Or was it taking the form of a man you would love? But with how Tom acted, you know that it was how this... Thing acted. You couldn't even be mad, let alone disappointed. But you did feel something, a soft ache. Not exactly betrayal, but sufficive of a feeling to hit that hammer right on the head. If this was what Tom really was, then why didn't he say anything? You would have loved him regardless if he were a giant rabbit, or the man of your dreams! Because he had the one thing your ex didn't: love.
Your hand goes up to the cheek of the beast, your lover, as your thumb rubs over in a gentle caress. The look in your eyes was tender, full of love, with little to no fear, as you hold your lover close to you without any hesitation. A chaste kiss, you place it right on his nose. A sign that you wouldn't leave him. You trusted him. Tom, or whatever he was, blushes, his fur growing a more full, darker shade of yellow once you kissed him. It seems that he didn't expect such an endearing reaction.
"It's fine, my dear... Now, let's go back to bed." Your hand trails down to that of your partner, the soft fur tickling the sensitive flesh of your hand. A pleasant feeling, one that sent your entire system into a placid, more composed state than prior to finding your lover. He nods, trailing behind you as you both gait back into your bedroom.
//And, an epilogue!//
Valentine's Day. You and Spring Bonnie, or 'Tom' as he's known in his human form, had been together for at least a year now, and today had fallen a few weeks antecedently from your real anniversary. Yet, you both decided to celebrate anyways, as for it being the season of love, an indubitably charming time of the year. You struggle with the zipper on the back of your dress, your hands unable to extend that far back.
"My dear! Can you come help me with my dress really quick!
"Coming, my love!"
Without further words, Spring Bonnie swiftly strides into your room, helping you out with the profound zipper. Once that's taken care of, his hands find their way to your waist, soft and round, yet gentle. Just like how you were: soft, gentle... Everything that Spring Bonnie had loved about you, you were his dream woman in every essence the word easily emitted. He lets out a sigh, nuzzling himself into your neck and sniffing the seductive scent of your perfume.
"You're gorgeous, my love... If looks could kill, I'd be dead."
"Pfft, you flirt!" A snicker is aroused from your throat, a smirk creeps onto your features as Spring Bonnie playfully nips at your jawline. "Alright, come on, my dear, we'll be late for our date if we don't go soon."
With a quick tap to his chest, Spring Bonnie takes the form of Tom, his human persona you met all those months back at Jeff's pizza. He interlocks arms with you, as you both head into the living room of the house you both live in. The savings you managed to get over the months, you both managed to have accumulated enough to purchase a small cottage within the town, just wayward of the countryside. Why, it had been a dream home of yours since you were little.
You both walk past the living room, where Liam had been playing with his babysitter, Haylie. Oh, she was a real sweetheart, that woman. Hiring her was simple, since she had moved into town recently and wanted some job experience before working at the school as a substitute teacher. Spring Bonnie and you look at one another, peppering one another's face with kisses and whispering tender, heart-felt compliments.
"Remember to behave yourself for Haylie, Liam!"
"I will, dad!" Liam replied, going back to his game with Haylie.
How adorable, Liam had called Spring Bonnie 'dad' for the first time! It initially started as 'step-dad', but now that Liam sees Spring Bonnie as a fully-fledged father figure, it could easily bring a tear to his eye. Without further speaking, you both nod, heading out for your Valentine's Day date.
