Lorin for odds!

1: Origins! How did you come up with the concept for your OC?

Lorin is a Raevan, a creature of @kyoupiruchi‘s making for her original roleplay community, Lab 305! When I first quested for Lorin, a lot of him was very vague as I was still very new to the community (after lurking for years) and I wanted to understand more fully before I got too committed on ideas. I did know, however, that I wanted something to do with Slavic folklore, and a leshy soul sounded absolutely perfect. So I worked around that.

3: Has your OC gone through different incarnations during their stay on Tumblr? Were they reimagined or have they stayed the same all this time?

Not really Tumblr but in Lab 305, he did transition a little from original ideas to what he is now. Originally I had concepted him as being older, but the idea of Lorin being a child began to appeal to me more and more as I was waiting for him. It played so well into Claire's soul capture arc and her own desires that I thought it would be the best fit. Originally, he was going to be fairly shy but I grew past that towards a rather skewed view of friendship, which works wonderfully with his Essence (Bitter Honey). So he has changed, but not necessarily in leaps and bounds. I'm excited to see where he goes from here as he's still rather new!

5: Were you nervous about putting your OC out there? How long did it take before you decided to play your OC here on Tumblr.

I was, honestly. Like between him and Claire, I was very worried about their dynamic being seen as too cheesy or sappy or Hollywood. I also worried a lot about my ability to play a child because one of my pet peeves in fiction is reading children that talk like adults and act like adults all the time in a way that doesn’t seem genuine, over a child who is trying to SEEM grown up. It's a difference I eventually plan to address and admittedly I'm really nervous on if my writing abilities are up to par for that, haha. ;; But I am going to try.

7: What does your OC look for in a friend? Do they value friendship a lot?

Lorin gravitates towards people of all sorts. He has an innate curiosity about others and endeavors to learn everything he can about a new person. Welcoming and friendly folks make that job easier, but it is not unlike him at all to go for those who are quieter. He does not like the spotlight too much but with others who have quieter personalities, it allows him to be a guide without taking control too overtly (because that would not be fun for anyone, he thinks). Kindness is a must, and shared interests are always a plus when it comes to settling in with new friends. But he also likes that there would be just enough differences in interests so that way there was something new to learn and share! Lorin values friendship deeply and it is a cornerstone of his interactions with others - he always goes with the goal of trying to make friends and make others happy. He firmly believes that no good person should be without a friend.

9: What is your OC like when at work? Are they diligent? Slacker? Do they get along with their co-workers?

CONSIDERING LORIN LOOKS TO BE LIKE.. EIGHT YEARS OLD.. this does not apply in the strictest sense of the term. But in helping out around the house or with other tasks, he always happily agrees and tries to go about his tasks diligently, but he has a child's curiosity and his attention wanders easily. He is also very chatty and likes to talk as he goes about doing things, so safe to say he might need someone around to gently keep him on task. He does not take harsh criticism well and is easily driven to tears if failure is an impending possibility as he does not want to let anyone down, so hopefully those supervising (be they adult figures or family or babysitters, or even older friends) will steer him kindly.

11: Is there a place they go to in order to escape the world, the stresses of life? What’s their favourite place?

He has a number of favorite places, most of them outside! Grandma Ivy's gazebo and Mama Claire's garden are the chief ones, however. Ivy's garden is much larger than Claire's so Lorin has a little more room to roam, and it allows him to exercise more freedom in his playtime rather than feeling like a parent or guardian is right on top of him.

13: Do they have any favourite foods? Would they eat it all the time if they had the chance? What do they hate to eat?

Lorin loves grapefruit, like.. a lot, a lot. He eats it fairly often but not enough that he would get sick of it (then it wouldn't be his favorite anymore, and how terrible would THAT be?). Honey is also good but the concentrated sugar affects him so rapidly that he can only have a spoonful of it, and very rarely, otherwise he will have the worst sugar rush (and crash) in existence. I feel he would also like sampling a taste of other sweet treats, but he likes a bit of tang. Anything that has a combination of sweet and sour would be a favorite of his, as well as light, natural foods! Heavy meats and greasy foods would not be on his agenda at all - he'd make an exception for crepes though.

15: Does your OC have any awful fears? Do they get paralyzed with fear or can they work through their fears?

Lorin's greatest fear, at the moment, would be letting others down. He'll eventually set himself to an impossibly high standard regarding friendship and push himself to be The Perfect Friend without really opening up on his side, it's the other party that is important after all, over him. It is a fear that he will struggle with for a while. Fire is a smaller fear and one he does not fully understand as to why he's afraid of it, but he will eventually be okay with it as long as it is contained (in a fire pit, or fire place, or likewise). Otherwise, I am still formulating more of these and I think they will come to the forefront as I develop him more.

17: Do they have any guilty pleasures? They embarrassed about them? Do they flaunt them?

He is too young to feel shame about things he is into, honestly, and does not understand why someone should be embarrassed about what makes them happy? He loves so many things, and if it makes you happy, then be proud of it! I guess the closest thing that could be considered guilty pleasure would be playing dress up or watching Disney princess movies (he loves Tangled and Cinderella A Lot, Cinderella reminds him of big sis Cadi) but he doesn't feel fussed about it.

19: Have they ever been injured? Sick? How do they deal with it?

Not yet, thankfully, but I think he would just be very dozy with his first sickness, sluggish, and a lot of nervous whimpering. He'd probably quietly tell Claire that he's scared a lot because what is this?? I've not felt this before??? Am I Dying??? No baby boy, you're okay, it's just a cold..

21: Name an embarrassing situation that your muse has been in.

Nothing yet, as he is still but a small bean and has not gotten out and about enough yet. But give it time! He will embarrass himself in due order, I am certain. LMAO.

23: Any ships for your OC?

Nope, also because he is still small and I ain't pairing up someone who looks eight years old, that's kinda gross. He may one day, when he has grown into Sigel perhaps, but friendship and family is his number one priority. I'm leaving that one open until the time comes.

25: What are your plans for your muse in the future?

Get him out, have him meet lots of people, develop friendships and his family relations!! Explore his interest in song, development of powers, the whole nine. B)

Bless your soul, Atma, for asking about this asshole. After some clarification we’re gonna go with EVENS!!

2: Were they originally well received by the fandom? Or if they’re fandomless, did the RP community take to them right away or was it hard to get attention? 

Okay so Gabe is a minor supporting cast character for an original RP community by @kyoupiruchi. As such, he doesn’t belong to a fandom but, being minor and only tied to a few particular characters (namely @neon-mace‘s Ethiriel and Henry), he hasn’t really made much of a standing within the community itself but then he also doesn’t really need to. He’s met a couple of others outside of his main sphere of influence, though, and did make a showing at a large group gathering but he probably didn’t make much of an impression LMAO

4: How do you get into your OC’s mindset to write for them? How do you find the muse for them?

I think about things that annoy the shit out of me. Working where I do now actually helps me a lot because now I have this little Gabe voice in the back of my head expressing his work frustrations. He’s surprisingly easy to write for and is great for letting me vent my issues while still attempting to be proactive and productive.

6: What is your OC’s family situation? Do they get along? Do they fight? Or are they alone?

For a time, and as he prefers, Gabe did live alone for a while. He kept his family at arm’s length and mostly spoke with them on the phone now and then or saw them during the holidays. Within the last two years, Gabe was unable to keep affording his apartment and had to move in with his brother Henry, who is taking care of Ethiriel. It was a fairly uncomfortable move and it took a long time for the dust to settle into some kind of normalcy.

Gabe is kind of grumpy like 75% of the time, so he does tend to bicker with just about anyone but ESPECIALLY with his family. His mother is the worst offender, as she bickers right back, while his brother tends to walk a line between their parents as their father tends to avoid confrontation like the plague and approaches matters softly. Even if it doesn’t seem like it, he does care very much about his family and that is, in fact, why he gets so impassioned whenever they do piss him off – because it hurts a lot more than some random stranger being an annoying shit.

8: What does your OC look for in a significant other? Are they looking at all?

Gabe hasn’t had much luck at all in the dating pool. He’s tried it a couple of times, his most successful attempt lasted a few short months but they weren’t very good at communicating and he really didn’t get along with any of her friends. That was his only relationship out of high school, which he isn’t sure any during high school really counted or not. He’s even had a fling – his first time, in fact – and that really isn’t for him either.

He isn’t looking. While he isn’t directly opposed to the idea, he’s pretty sure no one is interested and he’s resigned to dying alone. He also thinks it’d be fucking embarrassing to date anyone in his current situation and would much prefer to have a steady job and his own apartment again before even entertaining the possibility.

10: How do they deal with strangers?

Tacitly.

Gabe is the sort of person who, upon first meeting, is either very bland and neutral or you wonder what his fucking problem is. He isn’t shy about getting testy with others and his humor is awfully dry. It’s all circumstantial, though - if they don’t do anything to get on his nerves then he’ll stay chilled out and just be a boring footnote that day.

12: What scent calms them? Reminds them of home or something soothing?

It kind of pisses him off that it does, because it does it so well, but Gabe is a stress smoker so cigarette smoke tends to make him more sedate. Fresh laundry kind of makes him begrudgingly nostalgic about home, particularly when he was very young. Tea in general is pretty soothing but it’s become such a constant scent that it does feel a little odd not to have it around and he’s kind of desensitized to it otherwise.

14: Pet peeves. Tell us what would really tick them off. Do they have a Berserk Button?People talking with their mouth full. Being ignored or interrupted when he is speaking. Uneven white noise (like a weird occasional tapping that has no rhythm). Personal bubble or privacy invasion. When he is the last to hear about something important. Sugarcoated criticisms or insults. Backhanded compliments. Sensory overload (with noise especially, but also light, touch, and just about anything). Being coddled or not being allowed to try things. Condescending compassion.

I don’t think he has a full out Berserk Button but there are a number of things that piss him off to the point of shouting or storming out.

16: What are concepts they value? Virtues? What do they look down upon?

Gabe really values and admires honesty, with others and with yourself. He holds respect of personal boundaries and privacy in high esteem and enjoys when people understand that they don’t need to talk all the time to feel connected to others. It is important, Gabe thinks, to know when to shut up for a while and just enjoy silence in peace. He is a big supporter of the underdog and genuinely loves it when someone who has been treated poorly when they don’t deserve it manages to stand up for themselves and take charge of their damn life. He actually gets really jazzed about it.

As for things he looks down on, hypocrisy really kills him, and so does willful ignorance. When people complain but do nothing to help themselves or when other people try to help too much and stifle actual progress. People who want prizes for basic decency infuriate him. Gabe hates holier than thou attitudes, affluence and excess, and can’t stand when people flaunt their negative aspects as though they were virtues. Alternatively, he really loathes when people refuse to see any of their own worth and always talk down to themselves. He understands hating yourself pretty fucking well, he’s got that on lock, but you’re not the scum of the earth simply by virtue of you being hard on yourself in the first place compared to all the pieces of shit that think they’re God’s gift to humanity so lighten the fuck up.

18: Do they have a guilty conscience? Why? Did they ever do something they totally regretted?

Not as such. He can and will absolutely feel guilty for things he knows he’s done wrong, sometimes more quickly than others, but Gabe isn’t the sort of person to immediately assume fault in himself when something goes wrong. When one lives on such a hair trigger like he does, you’re bound to do things you regret and he’s done quite a number of things like that in his life. Starting to smoke in the first place is one thing, he regrets lashing out at a number of people but particularly his family and household, as well as like how he dealt with all of his previous romantic or sexual entanglements. There’s a lot he isn’t proud of himself for but he tries to acknowledge it and move on.

22: If given a million dollars, what would your OC do?

Paying off his medical debt sounds tempting but he’d probably only make a solid dent in it so fuck dropping all of it into that. He would cut a chunk for that, a chunk for reimbursing his parents for dealing with his sick ass most of his life, he’d get a better car but nothing too fancy, and he would definitely without a doubt get back on track with his own apartment. That really wouldn’t leave a whole lot left, a million dollars isn’t worth as much as it seems anymore, but he’d put all of the rest into his savings and just sit on it and accrue interest.

24: Have you ever gotten anon hate because of your OC?

LMFAO I HAVE NOT and gosh I hope I don’t but I’m sure there are people who don’t like Gabe or any of my characters and that’s okay, not everyone is going to and I’m sure they have valid reasons. I just would hope points of dislike were addressed civilly lmfao

Wow I’m sorry these took so long! Thank you for sending them, Atma. They’re from this list of questions so feel free to send me others from this too but please specify which you’re asking from!

1: Origins! How did you come up with the concept for your OC?

Well for the community he is a part of and was designed for (raevans in Lab 305 by @kyoupiruchi), for a long time I was very indecisive about my concepts. I switched ideas a lot and everything was pretty half baked. Eventually I settled on one component of him, that his soul would be a crocodile’s, and I wanted something that would contrast very sharply with that. When the Forceful Mistletoe essence became available again, I thought it was the perfect fit and I couldn’t be happier that it stuck.

4: How do you get into your OC’s mindset to write for them? How do you find the muse for them?

Sometimes I have to reread what I’ve previously written, especially if it’s been a long time or he’s in a particular mindset that I need to pick up if it’s not his default. I don’t tend to do anything special, otherwise, but looking at cute or romantic things does tend to get me in a mood to write for him.

5: Were you nervous about putting your OC out there? How long did it take before you decided to play your OC here on Tumblr.

Ah, I was actually! He isn’t on tumblr but involved in an RP community all the same. I was nervous because I felt unsure of how to play him how I wanted, whether he was original enough and not too similar to other characters that were already established, and because he deals with certain concepts that might give off the wrong impression. It didn’t deter me from doing it, I kept trying my best until I was accepted, and once I played him more and was able to develop him more consistently I feel less nervous. There are still times when I fear he is being misinterpreted, though.

6: What is your OC’s family situation? Do they get along? Do they fight? Or are they alone?

I suppose even by raevan standards his family situation is a little unorthodox. He doesn’t refer to the members of his household directly by family titles but they absolutely fill those roles, with Minerva being a mother figure and Anita being like an older sister. They all get along very well, though it took some time for them all to adjust to each other when he first came into their lives.

Disagreements are inevitable but they don’t usually fight. However, the previous summer, he did some very bad things while trying to be helpful and they really upset Anita, which has affected their current standing with one another. They’re still amiable but things are a little more hesitant between them.

7: What does your OC look for in a friend? Do they value friendship a lot?

Cruz makes friends very easily, though he likely considers them friends much faster than they consider him one. Friendship is one of the most important things in the world to Cruz and he cannot sing its praises enough. He desires kindness, trust, a tolerance for physical affection, and to be able to spend time with them frequently. Other than that, he isn’t very picky and tends to get along with most people.

8: What does your OC look for in a significant other? Are they looking at all?

He is not at all looking for himself but he would love to find you one! Cruz is asexual and aromantic, however he is deeply enamored with the idea of romance from an outsider’s perspective and carries a very idealized view of it. Basically he thinks of it as like The Ultimate Friendship. Cruz feels he doesn’t specifically need to upgrade any of his friends this way because he already loves them all so much and most of them cater to his platonic kisses anyway, which most people seem to require romance for first.

9: What is your OC like when at work? Are they diligent? Slacker? Do they get along with their co-workers?

Cruz only recently got a job and he is still settling into it. He is always personable and smiling without being overbearing, a diligent worker for sure but he may sometimes need reminding for certain tasks or to have them explained again before he gets them just right. Cruz gets along with basically everyone and the store (a novelty shop called The Shy Violet) is owned by a family friend. (It’s Leigh, she belongs to @thesweetprince)

The scent of the beach, of salt water, definitely make him feel at home. It’s a wonderful scent to return to after being on the mainland when visiting friends or working. Cruz also has a fondness for floral scents and fresh pastries.

13: Do they have any favourite foods? Would they eat it all the time if they had the chance? What do they hate to eat?

Cruz’s natural food source, thanks to his essence, is a kiss on the lips and it is absolutely his favorite. However, now that he’s begun sampling solids, he has found he has quite a sweet tooth but also enjoys savory flavors like meat, red meat especially.

14: Pet peeves. Tell us what would really tick them off. Do they have a Berserk Button?

He absolutely does not have a berserk button! It’s hard to imagine Cruz ever being angry, but he can certainly be impatient or get frustrated. He hates not knowing things or feeling out of the loop, especially with people he’s close to. Not understanding the processes behind things or when things seem unnecessarily complicated irritate Cruz and his instinct is to try and simplify or rationalize them into terms he can better identify with. If his friends don’t respond to his calls or texts promptly that’s a little annoying but he understands they’re probably busy.

21: Name an embarrassing situation that your muse has been in.

Oh god, the most recent one definitely had to be the situation with his friend Iorek. They met when Cruz was younger and not so good with words, he didn’t really explain to Iorek that kisses were his food source and just told Iorek he wanted to kiss him. From then, Iorek got the notion that they were a couple but, shy as he is and forward as Cruz is, neither of them really caught on that this wasn’t the truth until Iorek kissed him a little too enthusiastically at his birthday party and made Cruz uncomfortable, which started sending the mood of the party down a bit, among other occurrences.

Aside from that, he tried to go out of the apartment practically naked once (he has no lower body at the current time, it ends at his waist), but Minerva and Anita were quick to stop him. It was more embarrassing on their part than his.
