dare over truth | carol & steve
Steve had punched one of the Task Force agents, and there were about a dozen reasons he could think of why that had been a terrible idea -- even by his own standards. The man had been pulling a crying kid off the bus, and for what? ( The boy had wings hidden beneath his backpack, but he’d been quiet and respectful the entire bus ride. ) The argument had escalated quickly, and when the man had reached for what Steve assumed had been a gun ( it wasn’t ), he reacted without thinking.
----Not like it had been a hard punch, but it had been enough to send the agent back and sprawled out on the sidewalk. Steve exited the bus immediately, nodding to the kid as he went, and had made his way about ten feet from the scene when two things seemed to happen simultaneously. Another agent called after him with enough anger in his voice to vibrate the air, and he caught sight of a familiar face. “Carol?”
