"We'll always have summer, won't we?" It's a question that catches her off guard and she stills, suitcase in hand, a slight smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. It's a question that needs no answer. She laughs softly, as if the answer should be evident - and in that moment, it is. She places the suitcase on the ground, no longer interested in sticking to her parents strict schedule. Her feet find their way to him as if they're made for that soul purpose and she reaches, intertwining her hand in his. "We'll always have summer," she states, pressing a soft kiss to his lips. She hadn't lied. They always had summer. She just hadn't promised that they'd have more than one. --- "We're going to visit, aren't we?" She fills the silence at the dinner table, dropping her fork with an unceremonious clatter. They exchange looks, sighing softly. It's a subject that she hasn't dropped since the moment that they had arrived home, and even now, months down the line, she refuses to speak of anything else. "Visit who, darling?" She purses her lips, shaking her head. Of course her father would play dumb. Frankly, she'd be surprised if he recalled the trip at all. "Toby." She hears the scoff that he tries to cover with a cough and glances from one parent to the other, both of who have the good grace to stare at their plates. "Darling, it's much too short notic-" "It's summer. I promised." He shrugs his shoulders, a tight smile pasted onto his face. "Maybe Christmas." Cherry scowls, arms folded tightly across her chest. Her mother and sister pick awkwardly at the meal in front of them whilst Cherry's lays forgotten. "Christmas isn't summer." ---- It's not easy to forget. It's impossible, actually, when she can only compare one relationship to the other. She can't imagine it'll ever be easy to forget the boy who walked out of her life as easily as he walked into it. She tries, at the very least, and she forces the thought of him away when she and Bob lay intertwined on the sofa watching a movie that has Bob in fits of laughter whilst Cherry stares blankly at the screen. She knows for certain that Toby wouldn't find this amusing. No, he'd mock it openly. It doesn't take her long to drift away to other distractions, only becoming aware that he was still in the house when his raucous laughter echoed into her room. It's another noise that breaks her concentration, too. The sound of the door bell. She's too late to greet the person on the other side as Bob is already swaggering back into the living room, fully intending to resume his earlier position. "Who was that?" He shrugs, a smirk tugging at the corners of his lips. "Hell if I know, some bozo looking for you," he sneers, repulsion painting his face. "I told him you weren't interested." She pauses momentarily, rooted to the spot. However, she's sprinting within moments, leaving Bob to only stare at the space she had previously occupied. It crosses her mind that she's too late, he's already gone, but she finally sees him. "Toby," she whispers, breath coming in shallow gasps. "What are you doing here?"
