job update
I had a job interview last Friday. It was pretty long because the manager had to keep running up to the front of the store to help out his employee but everything went very smoothly. Shockingly he’s actually is going to give me a chance to work for him. I have so many mixed feelings right now. I’m excited, nervous, and a little anxious. This also required for me to go out of town to do a drug test for the position which was unexpected since I’d never had to take a drug test before for employment.
I had to go down all the way to Buffalo NY to get it done. Which meant that I had to take the Metro Bus. I was contemplating about getting an Uber but I also didn’t want to pay $30 bucks to get to and from home. This is off topic but yesterday I went to the DMV to get my temporary license and funny enough I already had it the whole time! I tried to go that Friday after I got home from the interview but they were closed because of thanksgiving the day before and black Friday. The Uber driver that took me back home was Jamaican and tried to flirt with me after assuming he thought I was a white girl when I was talking to him on the phone about my whereabouts.
Even if I was interested, your not gonna impress me with that lame shit. If I had a dollar from all the times people told me I “talk proper/ I talk like a white girl” I would have been rich af right now. I honestly haven't had anyone tell me I talk proper since I was in Middle School. But what’s wrong with talking proper? I guess growing up around my mom who also talked “proper” it kinda just grew on me. Not every black person talks the same my dude.
Jamaican guy was really trying it though. He was asking me what I do for a living, how old am I, do I have any family that lives here? Being really nosey and shit but I managed to dodge his flirty questions he kept trying to throw at me. He even tried to persuade me by saying he can take me to the Lap Corp if I pay him $25 dollars versus the $30 but I politely declined. I was, not gonna lie don’t judge me, a little tempted but it would have been really stupid on my part and he’s a fucking stranger so I’m happy that I was smart about it and said no.
I haven’t taken the Metro Bus since I was a little kid and had people with me at the time(my dad or sisters). Now as an adult, I had to go by myself and find my way around. I was so nervous and scared but I did it. My dumb phone kept dying on me which was mostly my fault because I was tracking the Metro Bus I was on with Google Maps to see where we were. I had to set my alarm clock to wake me up super early at 5:26 am to catch the earliest ride. It was still dark out because of day lights saving! The worst part was that it started snowing and my stupid hoodie that I was wearing kept slipping off of my head trying to ruin the hard work I put on my hair. It was so bizarre walking to the bus stop in the dark with the streets practically empty. I’m so used to walking out and about during the day time.
When I got to the lap corp I was worried the night before because Aunt Flow decided to come at the last minute and I thought that I wasn’t gonna to be able to get it done. TMI but I thought all the blood was going to mess up the results but they assured me that it was fine. I got lost a few times on the way back to the bus stops but managed to make it home in one piece thank god.
Nobody know’s what I’ve been up to this past week. I wanted to keep a secret since it seems like whenever I tell people that I had a job interview that might potentially go somewhere, it always ends up not working out. I’ll tell them maybe a week later when things fall into place. Sister from the island called me again but I’m still not ready to speak with her yet. I may speak with her Wednesday. Sister from NC called out of nowhere just to check up on me. I almost told her what I’ve been up to but held myself back. The only person I might end up telling first would probably be my dad since he’s been stepping up lately and has been able to keep things I tell him a secret.
