Ino got two things from Hotaru, her height & her beauty.

        Shortly after Ino and Sakura's chuunin match, Sakura's cloth behind her forehead protector changes from the dark standard blue to a red ribbon. Her early years had been based around the red ribbon given to her by Yamanaka Ino, the girl who had stood up to the bullies and protected her from their words and taunts. 

After their match against each other, having faced each other like real Kunoichi, Sakura moved the metal plate from her original forehead protector onto the red ribbon given to her. A symbol of the fact she was ready to renew their friendship. She had finally moved out of her shadow into the light where blossoms dance. Even though years before she had tried to give the ribbon back to Ino; telling her it was time she found her own path away from her shadow, Ino never took the ribbon.

What does this smell remind your muse of?

The smell of a fire, particularly a campfire, reminds Shikamaru of summer nights on the Nara compound with his extended family. They would all gather around the warmth of the fire and speak low with each other while gentle music flowed through the air.The children would be dancing in circles around the fire while the parents drank,chatted, and cheered on their little fawns. The nights would last forever and this particular ritual of his clans is one that he will cherish forever

Headcanon came with the help of itxstartswithino I filled in Hotaru, she filled in Ino.

       When Ino was little, she came home crying about how "They squashed him! They squashed him Mama!", only to send Hotaru straight to the letter desk having already started to write to Tsunade that "They're now literally squashing kids in the Academy! Should I be concerned?".

Only then did she realize it'd of been better to ask who this person was they squashed than assume things. Soon finding out they'd smashed the butterfly Ino had been sitting by watching go from flower to flower for nectar. Of course a sigh of relief was exhaled, only then accompanied with a child who wouldn't stop crying no matter what was done. 

After an hour of putting up with it and the crocodile tears not subsiding, Hotaru scooped up her daughter and ran off throughout Konoha to find Aburame Shibi. Who of course provided a barrage of butterflies in different size and color.
