Iulia Hasdeu tomb at Bellu Iulia Hasdeu (1869 –1888) was a Romanian child prodigy, the daughter of writer and philologist Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu. The tomb were built by her father according to the indications given to him by his deceased daughter as she contacted him beyond the grave.
At the entrance, on the frontispiece, are written the words: "Sit a little longer!". And the old father sat a little longer, on the bench that still exists in front of the tomb. In the place where there should have been a cross, there is a temple, above which stands a globe, supported by two sphinxes. The globe has indicated the cities where Iulia lived and studied: Bucharest, Paris, Rome. A symbol of intelligence and strength that has access to the divine, the cosmic, the Sphinx seems to be the guardian of science, reason and wisdom here. Under the two sphinxes are the fundamental books of universal knowledge: the Gospel, the books of the ancient East, Plato, Descartes, Kant... The legends of the Bellu Cemetery
The tomb was robbed. They even stole part of Iulia's earthly remains
The 3-meter high monolith, made by the hand of the sculptor Ion Georgescu, following the instructions of Iulia, from the other world, guards the entrance to the cave. 100 years ago, inside the crypt there were terracotta busts of Jesus, Victor Hugo and Shakespeare, and behind them, a special Murano mirror. Today they are all gone. Above, on the ceiling, made of two white marble slabs, there was an open book, on which the word God was written in gold, in Greek, Latin, Hebrew, Chinese, Arabic. As if he was watching over Iulia's silence from above.
Unworthiness, ignorance and human carelessness have destroyed a lot. Fragments of broken marble remain, partially preserving the ancient inscriptions. The stained glass windows are gone, neither the flowers, nor the butterflies, nor the angels, the family portraits have also disappeared. Iulia can no longer be seen through the crystal window of the sarcophagus, the skull having been stolen a long time ago. A small coffin with bones was placed on the high altar, where the words inlaid in the expensive Carrara marble are still legible: "By the will of God, this spiritualist temple was built, exactly according to the plan given in all the details by Iulia Hasdeu, Executor being BP Hasdeu At whose request the Axerio brothers worked on the Sculpture I. Georgescu Marble and mosaic, Ferarie AO Czipser, Stained glass Ziegler and Schmidt, Bronze Ph. Schweickert MDCCCXC With the will of God"
