REVIEW: “Liars, Freaks & Fools” by Ivan Beecroft

Retrospective and hardened by life, Ivan Beecroft lays out his experiences in devastating yet admirable candor in his new album “Liars, Freaks & Fools.” This album stands out in its defiance and authenticity. Marked by a grunge rock sound powering through darker undertones of his frustration with the struggles of the working class, this quality is particularly evident in the first track of the album. Through hard-hitting lyrics, “Inequality” addresses Beecroft’s working class roots that he personally, painfully knows very well as a steel worker. You can tangibly feel the disillusionment stemming from the challenges and demands that he lived through – challenges and demands that still go unaddressed and unmet.

With undeniable grit and anger in the lyrics, Beecroft does not hold back. Staying true to the tone of the title of the album, this cynical retro rock album is a place where he is given a voice – one he may not have outside of music – rising above the powerful yet simple instrumentals. A manifestation of catchy riffs and rhythms, the vocal and instrumental melodies are all unique and memorable, lifted by the entrancing passion bursting through his raspy vocals on tracks like “Shattered Dreams” and “Bad Company.” The lyricism is raw and true to who he is, with noteworthy songwriting in “Shame On You.” The album ends with “Let It Go,” a sure head banger and contagious, final track with its fun riffs. In all, “Liars, Freaks & Fools” is an honest realization and representation of the artist’s emotional, mental, and physical journey to get to where he is today.

New Release: BAD COMPANY

Genre: Rock, 90's rock, retrorock

Located in: Melbourne, Australia This song is off my next album called "Liars, Freaks & Fools" and is paying homage to all those great rock bands from the 70’s such as deep purple, rainbow, free and many others. The song was written in response to a period of life when I was struggling to find work and both my parents lost their jobs in a recession and the bank callously foreclosed on my parents mortgage right down to taking a small amount of money that was to be used as a deposit to rent another place, during this period I was constantly pulled over by the police whilst driving a $400 piece of junk, I received numerous fines that I was unable to afford to pay so the amount of money I owed inadvertently quadrupled and eventually I was threatened with incarceration.

It also led to having my license cancelled without my knowledge which in turn led to more hefty fines the next time the police pulled me over, with all that weighing heavily on my shoulders I ended up making some very poor decisions and eventually started to self medicate on drugs to relieve some of the misery and sadness.

One night at a house that I used to frequent I was set upon by a group of guys and beaten up to the point where I couldn't recognize myself in the mirror, the experience still haunts me years later.

The music we are creating is... Going back to my roots in rock and blues which is why I initially started playing in bands as I was interested in guitar rock from the 80’s and 90’s, it’s a very important transition from my earlier releases as it shows a more pub rock style that was typically around in Australia in the 80’s as I really want to turn people back onto this type of music

Right now we are..  Still working on songs for my next album and have had to re-record most of the songs on an analogue desk to get the type of punchy guitar rock sound I was looking for, so hopefully that will be ready early to mid 2019

This song is... My roots and wings stem from a family dynamic best summed up this way: whenever we camped, none of us were allowed to pack the car to go home until our own campsite was spotless and those on either side. Music to me has never been about applause and recognition, but instead embracing the opportunity to leave audiences a little bit better for the time shared on both sides of the stage. Those same sentiments translate presently into a project not merely for stage, but in consideration of the needs of an entire Nation. My chosen home of Australia is presently in the throes of the worst drought in over a century, and while there are far worst things happening to good people across the globe, sometimes we must step up and do the right thing where we’re able for no other reason than because it needs to be done.

My Band and I have just launched a drought aid program called ‘SA-NDI’ (South Australian Nip-the-Drought Initiative) a collective initiative rallying around a country/rock anthem we’ve produced called ‘I Can Almost Taste The Rain’. With Australia’s populace of 25 million and the World’s population tipping 6 billion travellers – if enough of us were to download the song through its portal (www.sa-ndi.com.au) for even a $1 donation – the result would amount to a tremendous impact providing water, hay, fuel, food to families who in turn grow food for a significant segment of one Mother Earth. One hundred percent (100%) of donations go to righteous charitable organizations like Aussie Helpers, Buy-A-Bail, Drought Angels towards the worthwhile causes they oversee in devastated areas. But the SA-NDI mission doesn’t stop there. We are also determined to perform ‘I Can Almost Taste The Rain’ for a session of Parliament in the New Year as a heart-touching apolitical reminder that we are all one heart, one land – be it a challenged region, continent or planet. The support and visibility we can generate via the internet and social media adds weight with which to tip the scales. Change and progress can and do occur with the shared resolve of good people committed to make it happen. It just needs to be put out there far and wide for enough hearts to be touched.

Right now we are... Earlier this year we were the Cinderella act at the largest AOR Melodic Rock Festival in the UK (HRH – Hard Rock Hell). The success of that event and the respectable crowds we drew afterwards while playing at heritage concert venues pushed us across the threshold into the ‘A’ List of the EU market. Our return to Oz was supposed to be a quick turnaround for a series of North American festivals, however, as is the nature of ‘rock and roll’, life stepped-in the week we returned and pulled the band apart like Da Vinci’s Vitruvian man.

This song is about the ever widening gap between the haves and have nots that we are experiencing. It was inspired and written after volunteer work that I was doing serving food to the homeless in a soup kitchen in Croydon located in the south east of Melbourne.

Having suffered through a period of homelessness and watching a longtime friend recently go through a similar experience with homelessness and all the complications that come with it motivated me to express the feelings of mental anguish and helplessness associated with being homeless.

The music we are creating is... very much a reconnection to the reason why I was inspired to do it in the first place, it's really just a kind of let's get back to the basics mindset and write and play the sort of music that would shake the window panes off the local pub, it definitely does have a very primitive aspect to it all.

Right now we are... Still working on songs for my next album and have had to re-record most of the songs on an analogue desk to get the type of punchy guitar rock sound I was looking for, so hopefully that will be ready early to mid 2019

This song is... the first one of the album 7 Steps. It’s about a journey I made through South America with a icluded trip to Antarctica and the Easter Islands. The feeling I wanted to catch was that of a photo collage, random pictures, feelings and thought passing by the observer. It’s a mellow, moody, mystical start off of the album I think.

The music we are creating is... This is the last single of the our journey and it connects back to the very start as it is the first song of the album. 
 PyraKite gives you a poetic and mystical journey through the classic rock and pop genre. Some may say PyraKite has a unique uplifting and fresh sound.  
 7 Steps is a concept album, which means that it's best experienced from start 'til end. The story of 7 steps (with it's 7 tracks) has got just as many layers to it as you wish.  The journey starts in Antarctica and ends up in space. The music has a happy melodramatic vibe to it and has been compared to the sound of Pink Floyd, Prefab Sprout, The Beatles and Steely Dan mixed with a bit of grunge and poetic touch to it. You might also find a bit of Ben Folds Five, Paul Simon or Rival Sons in there.  
 Hopefully the journey will be both mine and yours

Right now we are... We’re about to sum up our year of 2018. A great first year and our debut 7 Steps. We’re looking out to see if we can reach our goal of 100 000 Spotify streams by the end of the year. Hopefully we’ll get there!

New Rock Single from  Ivan Beecroft 'Shattered Dreams'

 This song is called shattered dreams it is off my next album "liars, freaks & fools" due out sometime in 2019, it was Inspired by a story about a country musician who traveled all the way to Nashville with a bunch of songs, an acoustic guitar, and lofty ambitions of becoming a huge star in the country music scene. After landing at the airport he hailed a cab to go to his motel room and soon discovered that the cab driver was a much better country singer than he could ever hope to be. All his dreams of becoming the next Johnny Cash were shattered on this one single cab ride.

Two weeks later after various rejections he felt utterly deflated and demoralised, so he sold his guitar at the nearest pawn shop and booked the next available flight home. My music is best described as 90's rock, grungerock with a heavy 70's influence in the instrumentation such as organs and the occasional use of a mellotoon, I honestly believe that anyone listening to this song will gravitate to it due to how accessible it is in regards to it's simple chord arrangements and a very minimalist approach that was taken throughout the whole recording process.

This song is.. off my next album called “The Gypsy Joker” and is paying homage to all those great rock bands from the 70's such as deep purple, rainbow, free and many others it was inspired by an experience I had working on a building site as a brickies labourer, a group of guys came across from Adelaide to work in this particular site and took advantage of another labourer that I was working with and after a few weeks things started to get really dark and disturbed when one day they decided they were going to kill this guy and loaded several bags of lime in their car in preparation to carry out this shocking deed, one of the guys claimed he was associated with a notorious biker gang called the Gypsy Jokers hence the title of the song.

My music is best described as 90's rock, grungerock with a heavy 70's influence in the instrumentation such as organs and the occasional use of a mellotoon, I honestly believe that anyone listening to this song will be attracted to the wide variety of influences in this track that traverse through at least three decades of great rock music starting from the 70's.
