synopsis. in which leeseo feels sick around her crush 𝜗𝜚 ⸝⸝ m.list ♡
If someone had asked Leeseo a few months ago what she thought of her, she probably would have said, Oh, she’s cool, I guess.
Gaeul was a senior, effortlessly charming, the kind of person who was friendly with everyone but close to only a few. Mysterious, but not in a cold way just naturally intriguing. Leeseo, on the other hand, was just a regular sophomore. She never expected to cross paths with someone like Gaeul, until two months ago, when they met in the school's dance practice room.
Leeseo had gone there to rehearse, only to find Gaeul already there, stretching lazily in front of the mirror.
“Oh, sorry,” Leeseo had said, hesitating at the door.
Gaeul turned her head, smirking in that casual, catlike way she always did. “Nah, it’s fine. Stay if you want.”
And so, Leeseo had stayed. That was the beginning.
At first, they weren’t close, just two people who bumped into each other a lot. But slowly, things changed.
Gaeul started greeting her in the hallways.
Leeseo found herself looking for her during lunch.
They started texting.
Then teasing.
Then sitting next to each other like it was the most natural thing in the world.
That’s when Leeseo noticed it—the fever.
Because every time she was around Gaeul, she felt… off. Her heart would race in a way that wasn’t normal, her face would burn even if it wasn’t hot. She’d feel lightheaded, like she was running a temperature.
Was she sick?
At first, she thought maybe. Maybe she had caught a cold.
But then she realized—
No.
This wasn’t the flu.
This was love.
And there was no cure for it.
—
Leeseo wasn’t planning on seeing Gaeul today.
It was just another regular afternoon, until she overheard some students talking near the lockers.
“Did you hear? Gaeul unnie has been stuck in the library all day trying to finish her calculus homework.”
Leeseo stopped mid-step.
Gaeul? Struggling with math?
That was new.
Before she could second-guess herself, she found herself heading towards the library. When she finally spotted Gaeul, the first thing she noticed was how tired she looked.
Her head was resting on one hand, while the other absentmindedly twirled a pen. Her notebook was filled with messy calculations, but she wasn’t even writing, just staring at the page, looking like she wanted to set it on fire.
Leeseo hesitated. Would it be weird to go over there? But before she could overthink, her feet had already moved.
“Unnie…?”
Gaeul blinked up, looking surprised for a second before breaking into a small, lazy smile.
“Oh. Hey. Leeseo, right?”
Leeseo’s heart did a tiny flip at the way Gaeul said her name.
“Yeah,” she replied, clearing her throat. “Are you okay? You look kinda…” She gestured at the notebook. “Like you’re struggling.”
Gaeul groaned, pushing the book away. “That’s one way to put it. Calculus is evil.”
Leeseo giggled. “I can’t relate. I haven’t suffered through it yet.”
“Lucky you.” Gaeul smirked before leaning back in her chair. “What brings you here, anyway? Came to witness my downfall?”
Leeseo shrugged. “Maybe. Or maybe I just wanted to check on you.”
Gaeul raised an eyebrow at that. “Oh? Worried about me?”
Leeseo’s face warmed. “I—uh, I mean, you just looked really frustrated, so…”
Gaeul chuckled, tapping her fingers on the table. “You’re cute.”
Leeseo nearly choked on air.
What.
WHAT.
Before she could recover, Gaeul pushed her chair back. “Wanna help me suffer through this?”
Leeseo quickly grabbed a chair, mostly as an excuse to calm her racing heart.
“I mean, I doubt I’d be much help, but sure.”
And just like that, they spent the next hour together. At some point...Leeseo realized she was barely paying attention to the math.
Because the whole time, her heart was acting weird.
Her hands felt sweaty.
Her face was hot.
Her stomach wouldn’t stop twisting.
And when Gaeul leaned in close to point at a problem in the book, their shoulders barely brushing.
Leeseo swore she felt dizzy.
This was bad.
She was really, falling for her.
—
An hour later, Leeseo was still feeling lightheaded.
And then she made a mistake.
She wasn’t even thinking when she mumbled, “You make me feel sick, you know?”
Gaeul froze. “Wait. What?”
Leeseo immediately panicked. “I- I mean, not in a bad way! Just-” She groaned, covering her face. “Ugh, forget I said anything.” Gaeul tilted her head. Then slowly, she smiled.
“Oh. I see how it is.”
Leeseo blinked. “See what?”
Gaeul leaned in, facing her.
“You like me.”
Leeseo’s brain short-circuited.
“I-I never said that!”
“But you didn’t deny it either.”
“I-”
Gaeul just laughed. “It’s okay. Because I like you too.”
Leeseo felt her heart jumping in her chest.
“You—you do?”
Gaeul smiled, her gaze soft. “Yeah. I do.”
For a second, Leeseo didn’t know what to do. Then she launched herself at Gaeul, wrapping her arms around her in a tight hug.
Gaeul let out a surprised laugh but hugged her back immediately, holding her close.
“I was literally about to confess first,” Leeseo mumbled into her shoulder. “I can’t believe you beat me to it.”
Gaeul chuckled. “Guess I win this time.”
Leeseo pulled back slightly, pouting. “Unnie, that’s not how confessions work.”
“Too late.” Gaeul smirked. “Now, do I get a Valentine’s Day gift, or do I have to suffer through calculus again just to see you?”
Leeseo giggled, shaking her head. “Okay, fine. I’ll bring you something.”
Gaeul squeezed her hand. “Good. But you know what I really want?”
Leeseo raised an eyebrow. “What?”
Gaeul’s smile softened.
“More excuses to spend time with you.”
Leeseo blushed.
But she was smiling too.
