Two Left Feet || Ralph & Lottie || The Ball
The ball was in full swing, and Lottie was pulled off to the side of the ball, admiring the people as they danced. The band was top volume, a lovely waltz floating in the air. There were couples all over the floor, all dancing in time to the music, and all in coordination.
This was Lottie’s favorite part of the ball. She absolutely loved dancing, watching people dancing, and just everything about dancing. The dresses that all the ladies were wearing now got to be shown off fully to one another, and all the gentlemen had an excuse to hold there dear ones closely (or ones they wished to be their dears.)
Now, in this situation, Lottie would be dancing her heart away and scoping out the prince, waiting for the opportunity to grab him and dance with him. There was one problem with this; no one had asked her to dance yet. Not one person had asked her to waltz with her, and, frankly, Lottie was upset. Was she not pretty enough? Did she not catch every man’s eye when she walked in? Something was very wrong here.
And oh, how she wanted to go out there and dance so badly, but she couldn’t! Not yet, anyway. It would be horribly wrong for her to ask a man to dance with her, that’s not how it worked. No, she had to wait, no matter how much she hated it. (She really hated that social restrictions prevented her from asking the prince if he would dance with her.)
And so she watched, pathetically (in her mind. To anyone else she looked perfectly content) as other happy couples danced around her. She even thought she saw the prince waltz past her! If only there was some man who would ask her to dance, at this point she’d accept anyone’s request.
