#Repost @ivonnah ・・・ Today #WeWearRed to bring awareness to heart disease. It kills 1 in 3 women because it often goes undetected. When I was 24 years old I was denied life insurance because my tests came back showing that I was pre-hypertensive. TWENTY FOUR! And from that time until passing out on my kitchen floor at 30, it turned into high blood pressure that was going untreated. ♥️ When @kiziana & I got to the doctor my blood pressure was 180/110 - at THIRTY. Then, at 35 at my regular physical, we discovered that my heart was enlarged on the left side because it was only working at 45% & the left was working harder than the right - it’s a muscle, it grew. ♥️ With treatment and regular doctor visits my heart function has improved. Thank God we caught mine before it was too far gone. I’ve changed my diet. I exercise regularly (we’ll ignore this week) & I make sure that I get time in for my self care. ♥️ I say all this to say, I don’t LOOK like I have high blood pressure. I am not your typical candidate. I’m 40. I’m 125lbs (I gained 5lbs in Africa & I’m trying my best to keep it, lol). Anywho, I’m blessed to know when my blood pressure is high. I get headaches, my vision gets blurry, I KNOW when it’s up. But most people have no idea & just drop dead. Honestly, that 180/110 should have killed me or gave me a stroke. But God...He has so much more work for me to do. ♥️ Be proactive. Get checked. Take care of your body. #AmericanHeartMonth #ivonnaherskine #ivonnah https://www.instagram.com/p/BtWsGssFBpH/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=76buus6q23um
