Karasuno vs. Aoba Josai climax.

Okay. So we all know the Karasuno versus Aoba Josai match is reaching a climax here, and most of us may end up crying even if Karasuno wins because Oikawa.

BUT

What if Oikawa isn't as let down as we think he will be? Imagine Oikawa just standing there with his head hanging after Karasuno wins, all his teammates turn towards him, expecting him to have shattered

But then, Oikawa raises his head and

he’s grinning, laughing even. Everyone thinks he’s gone crazy, and Oikawa’s just like “Wow! I haven’t been this pumped since Shiratorizawa. That was one awesome match!”And he has his genuine smile on, so everyone knows he’s not just hiding his grief. The captains shake hands, one congratulating the other. Oikawa turns towards Kageyama and he says “Well done, Tobio-chan. I’ve taught you well.” (even though we all know he didn’t teach him MUCH) And Kageyama thanks him, kinda bewildered.

Later, in the locker rooms, when everyone’s left for the buses, Iwaizumi decides to interrogate him. “Hey, Trash-kawa. The things you said earlier, did you actually mean them? You’re not gonna start crying?”

"Oh, look. Iwa-Chan is actually worried" he says teasingly.

"Just answer my question"

Oikawa has this distant look in his eyes, but he’s smiling, with only a hint of sadness.

"It sucks that we lost. We practiced really hard, and we still lost. But that was one helluva match. I thought all this time that the only wall we needed to get past was Shiratorizawa; Ushiwaka-Chan to be exact. But while I aimed to overcome that wall, there were others who aimed even higher than that." He shrugs. "I guess I just suffered the consequences. I’m sad but, hey. I’d be worried if I wasn’t let down. "

Iwaizumi stares at him with a frown.

Oikawa looks through the windows at the late afternoon skies. “Tobio sure has learnt a lot. I mean, a year ago I wouldn’t have believed that my team would lose against another with Tobio as a setter. I guess even the most hopeless cases can evolve big time over a year.”

He went quiet for a while, still looking at the sky.

Iwaizumi punches him. Hard. If he was being honest with himself, Iwaizumi was worried, and right now he just felt like a huge weight had been lifted off his shoulders. “Ow! Iwa-Chan is so mean! What was that about?” “The buses will leave us here if you keep talking. Let’s go.” And then he starts walking towards the door without another word. Oikawa asks, still rubbing his shoulder “How was it for you, Iwa-chan? This was our last match.” Iwaizumi looks over his shoulder “I was hoping we’d win, but that’s what everyone hopes for when they stand on the court. The team with the better six is stronger. Turns out, there is a team of six out there which is stronger than ours.”

"Yeah, well let’s hope they’re stronger than Shiratorizawa’s six, too. I can’t wait to have that smug expression of his to be wiped off of Ushiwaka-chan's face."

"Hmph" was the only reply. But it was obvious they’d be rooting for Karasuno next time. "Now hurry up. We need to get back home in time. You still have to claim your Best Setter Award tomorrow."

"You know what, Iwa-chan?" Oikawa said in a cheerful tune."I bet you would've won the Best Ace Award, if there ever were such a thing".

"Shut up".

And they leave, with Oikawa still acting like a big baby and Iwaizumi throwing occasional punches at him… - - - When did this turn into a fanfic?
