So I had an emergency appendectomy.
Been MIA since Wednesday, mid Wednesday afternoon I had excruciating pain in my lower right abdomen, and by Thursday morning I was screaming and crying in agony begging my parents to take me to the hospital.
Dad booked my in to see my local GP, and she confirmed all symptoms pointed to appendicitis.
Rushed to hospital, and after roughly 30 ish hours of back and forth umming and arring from 3 surgeons, 2 said I just had digestive issues and to go home, the other said I had appendicitis. Or an ovarian cyst which would result in losing my right ovary (I demanded they keep the ovary and take only the shit stuff) Several ultrasounds later, all deemed inconclusive, I was taken for a CT scan, and let me say Iodine solution injections hurt almost as much as appendix pain.
Parents were sent home Friday afternoon assured I’d be operated on Saturday morning, and literally 5 minutes after they left the day ward, a nurse goes “okay so you’ve been prepped for surgery since 6am (it was now 4pm) so we’ll take you in within the next hour” “what? no I go in tomorrow morning” “oh um no? we;ve been told to take you now”
Cue me calling my parents crying so hard I was nearly sick that they needed to come back asap because I was going under. I’ve never had surgery before and to say I was scared shitless was an understatement.
So this morning (Friday) I wake up and after a few hours one of the surgeons from the day before (the one who insisted I had digestive issues surprise surprise) comes in and tells me “your appendix was incredible inflamed and close to rupturing, you’re lucky it got taken out when it did” gee whiz mister surgeon sir thank fuck I wasn’t lying in agony for as long as I was I would have never guessed.
About 15 minutes after my parents left from visiting hours another nurse came along with my discharge paperwork - I’m off work until the new year (yay? sort of I mean no bonus pay over Christmas shifts but woohoo no fucking tourists to deal with - all at the cost of losing an internal organ) and had to ring them to turn around and get me. Ended up having my grandparents get me because they were already on their way to see me.
But I’m home now, sore stomach like you wouldn’t believe from the puncture wounds and the empty part of my body adjusting to the change.
Long story short - Had appendix pain. Drs and surgeons were shitty towards me until they realised how fucking dire the situation was, a day later I was taken in for my first surgical procedure with little to no warning, got sent home the next day with some wickedly painful scarring from keyhole surgery...and I’m so glad I’m back home.
Big love to those on my facebook who sent their support and well wishes - and apologies to those who may have worried about me on here.
