But what about Brad Pitt’s character? He seemed like kind of a “good” white character to me.

sure but he was a pretty small character and didn't really take away any of solomon's agency. usually these movies have a Good White Guy™ that's essentially a main character. brad pitt's character had good thoughts but he didn't come into the narrative intending to "save" any of the slaves. he just had the decency to do what solomon asked him to do.
