starter call ... featuring: izzie stevens ( @izstevns )
there's a new paramedic on ambo 61. there'd been a death, leslie shay. kim had heard a lot about her, only met her a few times on scene though. however the blonde wasn't hard to miss, especially not after the call they'd both been on earlier. officer burgess hates calls when children are involved. maybe the though call was what had made her seek out molly's, the local bar, mostly owned by firefighters. she admires the double work, once she clocks out, her mind is fried, and she definitely couldn't imagine standing behind a bar and listening to rowdy people all night. being on the other side of the bar ... that was what she needed today : and apparently she wasn't the only one.
"hey - izzie, right?" she'd caught the name from the other paramedic at scene, gabriela dawson. her brother worked in intelligence, which was kim's dream. the goal was intelligence, then ... adam ruzek, and maybe some cute babies. she chuckles and shakes her head. she was a dreamer, even after rough calls, maybe that was part of an innocence the job hadn't killed yet. the way she can dream herself into a future where she doesn't have to go home alone to her apartment, where a warm presence of laughter and tiny feet await her. a family, a real one. not like the one she had right now.
she wasn't neglected, she just wasn't prioritized.
she would do better. when she one day has a kid of her own? she would do better. but maybe that was what every parent was trying to do? better than the parents who had raised them. she gives the firefighter behind the bar a nod. "a beer please?" and then she sits. right next to the girl who looked like she needed a good tight hug - or one that looked like she was also dreading the empty apartment syndrome.
