J.Shea's "Drifter" custom Skelve for Stranger Factory's "Conjuring Mischief" exhibition!

NEW POST: The mixed media sculptural artist J.Shea transforms the classic Skelve platform into a steampunk-inspired flying ship, a dirigible that glides across the scary skies. Incorporating the Skelve mask as a figurehead on the vessel was a brilliant move, making this piece — titled "Drifter" — all the more memorable of a contribution to the previously announced "Conjuring Mischief" exhibition at Stranger Factory. "Conjuring Mischief," a group show of Skelve customs, will open on Friday, May 2nd with a reception from 6-9PM local time and be available for viewing through June 1st, 2014 at Stranger Factory, 109 Carlisle Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87106. J.Shea & Stephanie Buer's "Inhabitants" art show at the Hellion Gallery!

NEW POST: The mixed media sculptural art of J.Shea, pictured herein, returns to Portland's Hellion Gallery for a magnificent two-person show with his friend Stephanie Buer. Entitled "Inhabitants," this artistic exploration of those found in both this life and the next one will be a wonderful contrast between the polished, metallic, bio-mechanical creations of Shea against the stark & hauntingly realistic paintings and drawings of Buer. The two have even collaborated on a piece for the exhibition, which is sadly not being revealed yet. j.shea's Brilliant Assemblages for 'Tragic Heroes' at As Issued @ The Lab, 4/6

NEW POST: As Issued @ The Lab celebrated the opening of Tragic Heroes this weekend, a group art exhibition dedicated to "the flawed figure, the tragically miscalculated, and the culture of the underrated in art today." One of our favourite artists, j.shea, was among the exhibiting artists and contributed three new gorgeous sculptures for us ogle. Titled Dog House, Iron Horse and Off Course, the intricate assemblages are fashioned from wood, clay metal, wire and other discarded relics he finds on his travels. J.Shea's 'Panther' & 'King' Sculptures for The Animal Kingdom @ Gallery Nucleus

NEW POST: j.shea has a pair of incredible mixed media sculptures in Gallery Nucleus's newest group art exhibition, The Animal Kingdom, on now until March 3rd. Titled Panther (above) and King, the pieces are curious assemblages of discarded relics and repurposed materials, fused with figures crafted from either wood or clay. The over-sized tangled wire wings really do it for me. Panther measures 7" x 16" x 12" and is available for $350, while King measures 10" x 19" x 12" and is available for $500. Septenary Artist Profile: J.Shea

We have been exhibiting and showing with J. Shea for a number of years now and continue to be excited by his pieces. If you were able to join us for our Super Button Masher Exhibit this past February, you may have seen his awesome wire pinball piece.

For the Septenary exhibit, he has created a number of new wall hanging wood, wire and found object sculptures. All have an array of tiny, meticulous details and the perfect coat of antiqued lacquer.

J. Shea was born in Boston,Ma. and is now based in Porltand,Or. Shea creates mixed media sculptures out of small discarded gadgets and lost cultural icons, these assembled parts are fused together with hand sculpted figures and animals forms carved out of clay and wood modeling mediums, imbuing them with a sense of adaptability, transience and animism as they are pulled out of context, repurposed and re-contextualized.
