Jacanda-Skimming Stones
Title: Skimming Stones Artwork: Type: Album Record Label: Self Released Jacanda are five-piece group who blend pop melodies, stripped down folk, a touch of jazz and a handful of lovely vocal harmonies to create a warm and rich sound that should find favour with anyone who's enjoyed the musical wares of Seth Lakeman in the past. The band's previous release, Back To The Sky, received plaudits from a number of different sources and also managed to bag record of the year from Radio Six International award as well as winning Toxic Pete's yearly studio time competition. The new Jacanda album, Skimming Stones is a direct result from the aforementioned studio time, the album was recorded in FFG by Dave Draper and see's the band further develop their sound by adding strings and fiddle to their already lush sound. Pattered percussion compliments acoustic guitar, piano and the odd dash of jazzy saxophone, creating a lovely laid back sound that would make the perfect soundtrack to a long soak in the bath or perhaps soundtrack to a nice dinner party. The catchy melodies and Chris Pritchett's delicate croon, lull the listener whilst the odd peppering of sax will have you drifting off into a cool summer breeze and whilst lyrically the band may cover arguments, tragedy and estrangement they deliver them in such a relaxed manner that you can't help being soothed by the light and airy soundtrack. The band save the best track for last, Jacanda add a subtle electronic twist to the mix, giving the band a new dimension, whilst the instrumental finale to the track adds a little drama to the sound showcasing perhaps a new direction Jacanda could investigate further.
