All she had to do now, was lay low. Easy, right?
Get back to her quarters, avoid making eye contact with anyone- lest she end up in another unwanted situation. They were popping up all over the place, and it was getting old. No, it was well past that. Mara was burnt out.
Unfortunately, there was no avoiding them. Rebels. The place was crawling with them. It was sickening. An infestation. Where was a bug swatter when you needed one?
This one was an Organa-Solo, no doubt. He had the facial features, unmistakably. Plus, they all had that look to them. Pride. That was it.
He was about to get himself into quite the mess, and Mara wasn’t about to get blamed for it. Not after the truce she’d made with Skywalker. She was a lot of things, but Mara Jade was no breaker of promises.
Without even the slightest of sounds, Mara snuck up behind Jacen and held a blaster to his back. “You’re going to need to trust me, if you want to get out of this.” She’d spent the better part of her day freeing his people, and there was no point in taking two steps forward and three back.
Without much of a chance for Jacen to respond, two first order guards appeared from around the corner. They began to question Mara’s intentions with the offender, but she shut them down. “I need this one for my special assignment.” She eyed them carefully, knowing full well they’d get the message. What she didn’t know, was whether they’d let her off the hook that easily. The suspicion on their faces was evident, and they certainly had no respect for Mara. Nothing would please them more, than to prove her disloyalty to the order.
Several moments went by as the two whispered to each other. Mara grew impatient. “I don’t have all day, boys. I’ve got my own interrogations to perform and your superiors won’t take kindly to you wasting my time.” Her voice was pure acid, and they got the hint. Begrudgingly, they stepped aside for her and her prisoner to pass. “Pleasure talking to you.” Smiling sweetly at them, she pushed her blaster into Jacen’s back to urge him forward. The smile did not reach her eyes.
“Take a right up here...” She whispered as soon as they were out of ear shot. “Odds are, they won’t be the only goons we run into on the way.”
