THE GRIP OF IT by local author Jac Jemc is an unsettling and wonderfully paced novel that is part horror story, part domestic drama. A young couple, Julie and James, move to the suburbs to escape the city and their past marital strife. But the old house they move in to is filled with secret passageways, strange sounds, crude drawings, and an uneasy sense of unreality. The horror will keep you reading, but what really hooks you is the complicated relationship between Julie and James, and how it shifts and falters through the crisis; there's tenderness, but also mistrust and cruelty. #Spookathon has begun! 🤤❤ . . . I am hoping to do all of the #SpookathonPhotoChallenge tasks for Spookathon Week, so here is Day One's! (Technically, it's #Day16!) 😀🤤 . . . The task for today is to share a #SpookyCover. I present to you the cover of #TheGripOfIt by #JacJemc. At first glance - first photo - it doesn't look too spooky. But if you angle it the right way in the light, A LOT of scary - or scared - faces appear! (See second photo.) These faces are all over this cover! They're littered heavily in the title and the little house. 🤤 . . . Also, Max was on the floor, and because of Instagram's cropping rules, you can only see #PartOfADog! Spooky?
