#OTD in @chicagocubs history ▸ Thirty years ago tonight, after 5,687 consecutive day games played, the Cubs had the first ‘Opening Night’ in team history at @wrigleyfield. 

Flanked by legendary Cubs’ announcer Jack Brickhouse and ballgirl Mary Ellen Kopp, 91-year old Harry Grossman a Cubs fan since 1905, flipped the switch for the first home night game at 6:06pm. Midway through the fourth inning, the game was stopped by rain. After a two-hour 10-minute delay,  home plate umpire Eric Gregg called the game and the Cubs played their first “official” night game the next day...

My late father, James S.
