The Jack Collection | Tucked Q&A Series
The Jack Collection is a men's accessories line that is "devoted to the celebration of the American Renaissance man: Jack." So far, I've only had the chance to see their bowties, and it may be awhile until the rest of the line rolls out, but there is reason to be excited. The bowties are fitting for the progression of men's style, I'm just wondering what will come next. I had the opportunity to see these bowties up close and personal. I must admit, they are a pretty cool and easy way to add a little dapper sophistication to even the most casual of outfits. The bowties are clip-on which was a little surprising, but I suppose very helpful. Believe it or not, I can't even tie a bowtie yet.
I couldn't just leave the story hanging without finding out more. I was able to speak with the creative forces behind the Jack Collection, Ilethia Sharp and Arielle Pooser. Neither of these women have a hardcore fashion background, but they are taking their collective talents and putting into some solid work. I can't wait to see how the full line will look, but for now, check out our conversation.
Tucked: What was the inspiration on starting the Jack Collection?
Jack Collection: The initial inspiration on starting The Jack Collection started with a casual conversation we (myself and Ilethia) had about our idealistic version of an archetypal American male. We named this theoretical guy Jack and before we knew it Jack had a men’s accessories line. We expanded on the archetypal American male concept and put together a story board of exactly who Jack is from the kind of woman he likes to date, to the car he drives, to what he likes for breakfast. We went a little overboard with the initial creative development but it really helped us figure out exactly what we wanted the line to represent. We know what Jack does and doesn’t like so it’s easy for us to focus our creative direction each season while staying true to our original aesthetic.
Tucked: What kind of guy are you trying to capture?
JC: When we first launched the limited edition releases for Spring we planned everything out. We worked with a factory in New York to come up with a clear cut schedule of each accessory release up until the fall launch. We were trying to create a little buzz around our brand and the launch but ended up with an entire bee hive. We had no idea that the releases would be so successful.
Tucked: Since you haven't fully launched, what can people expect when you're up and running?
JC: The success of the first few releases completely changed our plans for the fall launch. Instead of an entire line of accessories, we’ve decided to focus on bow ties this Fall. We just couldn’t ignore such a positive response. What better way to show our appreciation than to give the Jacks what they want?
Tucked: Where do you think men's style is going in the next couple of seasons?
JC: I think men’s style will pay a closer attention to detail in the next few seasons. Our designs definitely do. This Fall the collection maintains a sort of loyalty to our original creative direction through masculine simplicity and a close attention to detail. We’re keeping most of our silhouettes simple while drawing a focus on details like texture and stitching.
Tucked: Do you have any fashion or style icons?
JC: The 60s were an iconic period for American fashion and style. Everyone was swaggin’.
Tucked: What are you aspirations for the collection?
JC: Right now, we are expanding. We’ve been doing so well with the online store; we’re starting to focus our efforts more on wholesales now. In the next few seasons we’ll also look to put out an entire line of accessories for men.
