Everyone loves Jack, in spite of because of her half-asleep shenanigans.
Sam's occasional late shifts could be a pain in the ass, but sometimes it worked out that he was coming home just as Carrie was getting up to get ready for work, and she came to treasure the quiet morning moments that they could spend together. This time she was rubbing Sam's shoulders, his head tipped back and resting on her forehead as she worked, when the sound of shuffling feet caught their attention and both of their heads tilted at the side to see Jack moving sleepily down the hallway, obviously not fully awake.
"Jack," Carrie admonished her softly, her voice carrying easily in the quiet of the morning, "what in the world are you doing awake?"
"I gotta..." Jack made a vague pointing motion toward her computer, words apparently eluding her by the way she blew out a frustrated breath and made wiggly typing motions with her hands.
Who knew what she'd get into if they let her onto the computer in that state. She'd once booked them plane tickets to Sacramento just because she'd wanted to go to the mall, or at least, that's how she'd tried to explain it afterwards. "Jesus... Sam, take her back to bed since you're heading that way?"
Rolling his shoulders, Sam stood and headed for his target. "You got it. Come on Jack, you can screw with your computer when you're actually awake."
"I'll screw your face."
Sam's eyebrows shot up and Carrie had to stifle at giggle as he grinned down at Jack. "Heh, I'm all for it but I'm pretty sure Erik would be pissed if he missed out on that. Move."
When she continued to glare up him, nose wrinkling as if she were trying to find something to say but words were failing her, Sam simply bent at the waist, hoisted her up onto his shoulder as if she weighed nothing and headed for the bedroom, waggling his eyebrows at Carrie as he disappeared around the corner.
With that proposition of Jack's firmly in her mind, Carrie was kind of sad she couldn't cancel her work appointment. With a mental image like that, she knew that concentrating on her job would be particularly difficult today.
