"May I cut in?"
Kent held out his hand as Jack and Bitty stopped dancing to turn to him. Bitty smiled, giving the well-dressed Kent a look over from top to bottom.
"Well, alright, Mr Parson," Bitty answered with just the right amount of twang. "You just keep your hands where I can see them."
"Actually," Kent looked away while scratching the back of his neck. "I was hoping maybe I could have a moment with you, Bits."
"Oh!" Bitty looked up at Jack.
Jack laughed softly and nodded. "I'm going to get some punch. You two enjoy yourselves."
Kent took Bitty by the hand, placing his other arm gently on Bitty's waist. The music shifted to another slow dance. A quiet moment passed between them as they stepped to the music.
"So," Kent started, "I heard from a little birdie that this was all your idea."
"Well, I haven't the slightest clue what you're talking about, Kent." Bitty hardly tried to hide the smug look on his face.
"Come on. You and I both know that Jack would never have invited me to your wedding. This was all you."
"Oh hun, that's only half true." Bitty let out a sigh. "You know how he is. Only ever knows what he wants when someone points it out. He wanted you here. We both did. All I did was bring it up."
Kent gave Bitty a gentle spin, catching Bitty's waist with his free arm and pulling their hips close enough to touch. Kent leaned into Bitty's ear.
"I just want to say thank you. This means a lot to me. Seeing Jack happy. Seeing both of you happy. You two give guys like me hope, you know?"
"Well, I don't know about that.” Bitty rested his head on Kent’s shoulder. “I just thought people like us should stick together, that's all."
Another moment passed as they swayed on the dance floor. The music faded as the next song started to play.
"Speaking of hope," Bitty pulled away and tilted his head over towards the dining tables. "It looks like your 'plus one' is getting a bit antsy watching us dance."
Kent looked over to see his date watching them, champagne glass in hand, nervously bouncing his leg under the table.
"I guess I should go give him some attention, shouldn't I?"
"You go do that, sweetheart."
Kent and Bitty traded smiles. Kent leaned down to kiss Bitty's hand before letting go.
"Thanks again, Bits. And Congratulations."
