The heady scent of sandalwood and incense overwhelmed him as Jack stepped through the door and for a moment he regretted his decision. Well, it would be pointless to change tack now. He was committed to the plan. Nodding to the person at the cash register, he moved towards the back of the store and tried hard to look interested in the many varied oils and instruments lining the shelves. Christ he wished he'd chosen another store. Any other store. He was going to get a migraine at this rate. Fuck. He'd just have to wait it out.
And so he did.
A few moments later, the sound of the door opening broke through the peaceful atmosphere once again and with a glance back he felt a swell of triumph. Gotcha.
See, for the past few weeks Jack had acquired a shadow. At first he thought it was a coincidence. Small town, small world, you get the gist. But then he'd started to pay attention. The kid from the bar, the odd, infuriating one with the journal, had been showing up everywhere, far past the point of possibility of meagre coincidences. Seeing them walk through the door now only confirmed his suspicions. They were following him. He was sure of it.
Ducking around an aisle, he made a beeline for them. "Okay, seriously, I've tried to ignore it, but it's getting really weird now," He hissed, trying not to disturb the other customers milling around. "It's like every time I turn around lately you're there. So what is your problem, huh? Why are you following me?"
