[ Characters: Donquixote Doflamingo, Hypnos Acevado ]
[ Warnings: it's kinda long as fuck ngl ]
[ Notes: I DID BOTH. I SAW IT SO I DID IT, AND I PUT BOTH OF THEM TOGETHER ]
Hypnos had been working with the Donquixote pirates for about eight years now, which constantly surprised him.
He wasn't sure how he'd been able to deal with Doflamingo for this long. At first, he was only doing it because Kuma had asked him to (and there were few things he wouldn't do for his closest friend), and then it was for the money, and now he wasn't sure.
After the fourth year, Hypnos had warmed up enough to the pirates to start sleeping around them. A couple of months after that was the first time he'd asked Diamante to sit in the bathroom with him, so he wouldn't be scared of taking a bath.
Somehow, he had gotten quite close to them. Diamante was now one of his closest friends. Baby 5 liked to talk to him about her newest love interest. He'd even gotten close to Sugar, who liked what he would bake for her.
But there was one person he still couldn't stand. Doflamingo was loud, rude, and seemed to think he was an ACTUAL cat and could be manhandled like one.
And yet, somehow, Doflamingo was the one Hypnos wanted to trust the most. Standing next to him was comforting- it almost felt protective. His parties sucked, but they sucked less when the man stuck close to Hypnos. Not to mention that his naps always felt more fulfilling when he passed out on the couch in Doflamingo's office.
He fucking hated it. He hated it more than anything in the world. It made his blunted fangs ache when he clenched his jaw tightly, and pain shoot through his hands from how he pressed his clipped claws into his palms.
Finally, he confronted him. He wanted to know what that asshole pirate was doing to him. Surely it had to be some supernatural force. He knew Doflamingo could puppeteer people, maybe he could fuck with their heads too.
"Stop doing this to me!" he snapped one day, his ears pressed flatly to his head and his tail fluffed up. His rage only grew when Doflamingo gave him a confused look, even tilting his head slightly to the side.
He clicked his tongue before he spoke, "Huh? I'm not doing anything?" If only he knew how angry that question made Hypnos. It made him bite down on the inside of his cheek so hard he could taste blood, to keep him from hissing at the man.
"Stop lying!" He ran his hands through his hair, stressed out more than he had been since he was a child. "You're making me all fuzzy inside! And I hate it, I hate it more than I hate you! Cut it the fuck out!!"
Anyone that knew Hypnos knew he had never been in a relationship before. He didn't know what romance was, because he'd never seen it. Not from his parents, or his siblings, or really anyone close to him. He didn't know what it was supposed to be.
He just knew that he felt metaphorical butterflies in his stomach every time Doflamingo laughed, or brushed one of his hands against Hypnos. Even when he sarcastically pet him, all Hypnos wanted to do was lean into him and purr.
There was silence. Hypnos couldn't stand it, so he left. Without another word, or even another glance at the warlord, he ran. He ran to his room, the one he used as more of a painting studio. Once inside, he locked the door and got to work.
He didn't speak to Doflamingo again for several days after that. While that wasn't strange in itself, he usually still stayed in the same rooms as him. Not this time though. No, he was getting rid of these weird feelings, and there was NO way in HELL that he was going to give that bitch a chance to undo his work.
His days were spent hiding in the rafters, floating on the beach (where Diamante would eventually find him, and fish him out), or darting out of rooms when Doflamingo entered. His nights were spent locked up in his room, painting until his hands hurt.
Somehow, he thought that he could do this forever. That Doflamingo wouldn't care, and would simply let him distance himself from him. He was.... deeply wrong.
At the dawn of the third week of this little game was playing, a large hand grabbed the hood of his hoodie, yanking him back into the room. "Out with you," Doflamingo told Diamante, who Hypnos had been having a rather amusing conversation with before trying to escape. Of course, Dia obeyed without question, but sent a sympathetic look Hypnos's way. One that made him hiss at him.
The door was closed once Dia was out, and Doflamingo stood in front of it to ensure that Hypnos had no escape.
How fucking rude of him.
There was quiet, and Hypnos could feel the rage bubbling up again. He didn't like his time being wasted, and this was definitely a waste.
Until, that is, Doflamingo finally spoke up.
"Give me a chance," he said- practically demanded- as he stared down at Hypnos (who still hated that he was so much shorter than the man).
The phrase confused him. Give him a chance? "A chance for what?" Hypnos wasn't fully aware of the fact that he'd said it out loud until he received a response, and it was a response that deeply surprised him.
"A chance to prove to you that I can make you happy."
That was when the ball dropped, and silence fell over them again, like a scratchy and uncomfortable blanket. Hypnos's enhanced senses even calmed down, making him focus solely on the bird of a man in front of him.
He didn't get a chance to say anything before Doflamingo was continuing. "I know you don't trust me," that's true, especially not with lovers, "but I'm serious. At least let me try. You've been here long enough to know I'm not going to hurt you. Please, Hypnos."
Hypnos. He said his name. Not "cat", or "hissy", or any other stupid nickname. He said his fucking name.
"Okay," came Hypnos's quiet, and strangled reply. "One chance. On chance is all you get."
Doflamingo immediately gained his oh-so-familiar grin at that, before placing a hand on Hypnos's head and ruffling his hot pink hair. "One chance is all I need. I won't disappoint."
For once, Hypnos didn't doubt that.
