Bonded, Jack Daniels Bonded. . . This new release is excellent! Bottled at 50%, it has quite a bit of spice and depth. I can find that JD profile, and it's not as complex as the single barrel, but you can see how that is a more refined offering. . . This is bottled in bond, using the signature mash and then matured in barrels that have staves with grooves cut into them. The grooves allow more extraction of flavours as the surface area inside the barrel increases. . The bottled-in-bond act specifies that it must be distilled by a single distillery in a single season and aged in a federally bonded warehouse. . Those standards have allowed for a pretty good whisky to be created. It has a bit of a kick and a spiciness to it from the 50%. On the nose we got some minor fruits, a touch of oakiness and that caramel and vanilla attributed to virgin oak. . . I'd rate it one below the single barrel. I could pour this JD bonded any day. .
