SCRATCHTHEBLOCK PRESENTS: IN A JAZZ MOOD

Jazz is a kind of style that engages senses, body and mind in every shades it show itself.  I remember when  Beat Generation exponents went crazy listening to Bebop improvisation in 40s and the great attraction to the cool jazz of 50s with Miles Davis! Jazz history is so complex (with countless subgenres) and it related to society historical evolution.

With In A Jazz Mood we wanna celebrate the “smooth and seductive” part of modern-jazz, probably too influenced by nowadays sounds but despite that it’s pretty nice!

Alexandre Tassel(piano and trumpet) and Guillaume Naturel (saxophon) join their forces to release in 2007 a great album called Food For Thought under the name Tassel Naturel ,working also with french talented DJ Cam, who co-produced the album! We choose Food For Thought with rapper Guru

Grammy Awards winner,Saunders Sermons is a complete artist as singer,musician and songwriter. He collaborated with many heavy-weight stars: Beyonce,Maxwell,Jose James,Jay-Z ! In 2009 Saunders released his debut album: Classic Delight with some original tracks and three re-arrangement of jazz classic like Duke Ellington In A Sentimental Mood! In this occasion Sermons collaborated with Casey Benjamin from Robert Glasper Experiment.

We mentioned Robert Glasper Experiment, so we decided to put on this selection one of the best joint by the experimental-jazz collective: Let It Ride , adorned by Norah Jones blissful voice. Well, N.Y based jazz artist Pete Belasco is not a new entry on scratchtheblock infact he appeared on Jazz Is The Keyword. He knows how to play something lush and seductive and his Hurry Hurry is sweet as sugar, perfect for a wet-night! Check out his sultry album Deeper 

We heard many combo with Jazz: Jazz and Hip Hop, Jazz and Soul and we propose also a “R&J” big gem entitled Wonderful & Special. This great track is included on You Have Reached by jazz saxophonist Mike Phillips who teamed up with r&b crooner Jr. Anthony (he really really impressed us)

Jose James represents one of the best newcomer of the last ten year! He grabbed the attention of many critics with his original skills that combines elements of jazz and neo-soul. Brooklyn based singer is ready to take your hands to bring you and sit on a park bench with his: Park Bench People. This soulful track is included on Dreamer album.

Walking on Virgina streets you could discover something interesting like Jackiem Joyner a great saxophonist that with his Round The World will make ya  fall in love with his craft! This extra-supa-smooth jazz instrumental is included on 2009 Lil Man Soul.

The next collaboration is so classy! South Carolina artist Darius Rucker and neo-soul songstress , the divine Jill Scott duets for the track Sometimes I Wonder.

Carmen Rodgers is an eclectic songstress that embodies jazz and neo-soul skills. Her hot voice is like an intriguing caress  and if u are ready to lost you senses with a relaxing gem, we present you Ain’t No time! You can discover more shimmering tunes on her album Free 

Yap, pianist and singer Alison Crockett is like drops of soft rain on your body! She worked with King Britt and acid-jazz collective US3 and released many albums for every taste: funky,soul,jazz,acid and nu-jazz! In 2004 she dropped On Becoming A Woman from which we choose the sumptuous masterpiece called Like A Rain
