Jack the Yak
This is a story I wrote in 11th grade for an English assignment. My teacher said it wasn’t what he expected, but I think he found it so hilarious that he gave me an A- anyway.
“Once upon a time there was a yak named Jack. Now Jack didn't know he was a yak. With his back, Jack tried to stand on two legs. Instead of standing straight, Jack landed on his back. Jack, on his back, could not get back up. Jack asked a passing duck for help, but all it said was quack. "Quack does not help!" yelled Jack as the duck flew away. Now Jack the yak lay there on his back, wondering what he lacked. As Jack lay on his back, suddenly he heard a loud noise. Jack looked up and saw a large pack of ducks that looked ready to attack. "Why?!" screamed Jack, "I still don't know what I lack!" Then, down came the duck that Jack had asked for help. In a wise voice, the duck said, "Do not fear Jack, the only thing you lack is the knowledge that you are a yak. I have brought my entire family here to help you up, I will go search for other yaks so that you can be with them, Jack. Also, I suspect you may have amnesia." As the duck flew away to find other yaks, and his family helped Jack up, Jack was having an epiphany. With the knowledge that he is a yak, Jack knew what he used to lack, and how he should now act."
