In terms of just a fictional character, without looking at her as a League champion, I’d say fuck yeah, I absolutely love Erika Lindquist. I have probably gone on and on about her more times than I can count, but she’s a precious little cinnamon roll to me. She was one of the first characters I created with a thorough background from her original story, “our story”, and when I get around to publishing novels, I’m definitely going to plan out something with this kid. 

BUT, 

in terms of a League champion, she feels weak to me. I did mention that I’m in progress of updating her kit and design, but, even through some of these changes, she seems like a plain character when you compare her to anyone else, especially regarding her Noxian background. That nation is generally full of champions who have a dominating presence, whether in physical strength (Darius), tactics and intellect (Swain) or Draven being Draven, among other characters and traits. She is the meek opposite of Noxus, which was the point of her creation. (Her strength lies in her emotional and physical resilience, but it’s often unnoticed.) She was made as a foil to Riven, at least in my headcanons, and is overshadowed by her sister’s achievements and strives to choose her own path. 

Her design, as much as I love all of the artwork that people made for her, is plain and generic, that you could probably put her into any nation, switch who her older sibling was, and she wouldn’t look out of place. Compare her to any other League OC, and again, her simplistic design is apparent. Many League OCs amp up the uniqueness and champion-like traits to eleven. But I think her personality and upbringing in Noxus is what makes her unique, so it may be a matter of changing her appearance a bit.

Don’t get me wrong, I love this character so much, and I’ll keep trying to update this blog as much as possible. With all the new champions coming out and how wild their kits are, I don’t know if Erika is all that interesting anymore. 

That being said, my upcoming changes seem much more interesting than her original “this is a marksman” kit, and hopefully, the ideas keep in line with her Erika-ness.

📝 - Story from your childhood.

There’s a place off Ocean Avenue…

…Wait, wrong story starter. There’s a beach around SF, California called Ocean Beach where my father and I used to go to when I was a young boy (my father did take me into the city, but no, we did not see a marching band). I think I was five or six at the time. I’d go up real close to the waves and stand there so my feet could get washed over by the ocean. Not anything dangerous or scary, but my father would always stand behind me and then scoop me up whenever the waves rolled in, then dangle me as if he were planning to toss me in. We’d always be laughing about it, and then my mother would scold him for doing such a thing to their precious little baby. 

Ah, the things parents do to the minds of their easily influenced children…

Haha, it was fun, and I do remember the experience vividly. (My memory is terrible, especially anything having to do with me before I was 7-8.)
