After work today, Gus and I walked over to the Grummers' house to celebrate Martin's first birthday. Jacob grilled burgers and hot dogs. (Mom stayed home with Magnus because he's got a lot going on -- double pink eye and the cold is not going away.)

Dear Gus & Magnus,
We watched the Razorback football game with the Grummers today and Jacob made burgers and cheese dip. Gus's favorite thing that happened today was probably playing in this giant box. But things took a turn for the worse when he became territorial over it.
Mostly I think he was tired. The kids all played hard and Rhett also had a breakdown. I ended up having to carry Gus kicking and screaming all the way home.
Regardless, it was a good day. And after we all put our kids down, the Grummers came over to play Codenames on our back patio.

Dear Gus,
This morning we went to Collins’s house for a birthday party for her and her mom. You had your first Fruit Roll-Up and had fun playing with her in her room while Mom and I talked with grown-ups outside--there were only a few kids there. Then we went to Big Orange for lunch before going home to get your costume and joining the Cerratos in their front yard for a casual birthday party for Zoey. You loved playing on the big swing in the back yard. After that, we were all exhausted, but we set up a table and candy slide to pass out candy on our street. Our street hired multiple city cops to patrol and we barricaded the street to vehicular traffic. Everyone chalked up some arrows on the sidewalk to encourage trick-or-treaters to only move in one direction along the west side of the street and the other direction on the east side of the street. I’m generally not a Halloween person--I don’t like not being able to immediately recognize who I’m talking to--but tonight had such a community feel to it that I could see myself being a Halloween person here on Ridgeway.
It was a long day, but a good one.

We went to an end-of-school-year PHE party tonight. Magnus mostly stuck close to me and Mom, but Gus spent his time playing soccer with other kids his age -- some of whom were on his soccer team. I was glad to see him being more aggressive than he was most of the season during organized soccer.
