“You scared the shit out of me. I’m never going to stop hugging you.”
Jacob should have made her stop. He should have reminded her that they were in a very public place. But he couldn’t find the energy to care. They all had almost died. He had almost died protecting his princess. She was a real target - a group had gotten together to try and put a stop to the monarchy. One member was an extremist and had tried to kill Khylan. His beautiful, gorgeous, amazing, Khylan. One hand was in her hair and the other was holding her as close to him as possible. People swarmed them to make sure she was okay - no one dared ask the man who had a gun pointed at him while taking down the man with the gun. “It was worth it.”
"Are you... baking?" // "No, no, no! Don't put that in yet!" // "Are you sure you're supposed to add that much sugar?"
Jacob turned towards her, not expecting her to be awake yet. “Not really…I mean…I’m making homemade biscuits so that’s kind of like baking. I guess.” He sighed as he looked down, flour covering his apron. “I look like a fool, don’t I? I wanted to surprise you with breakfast in bed. Now that we have been given permission to date and it’s your first night staying over…but you didn’t sleep as late as you normally do.”
“No, no, no! Don’t put that in yet!”
Alex put down the egg he was about to crack in the brownie batter. Reina was teaching him a bit about baking and he was, apparently, doing it all wrong. “There’s a certain time to put the eggs in?” he asked, confused by it all. He knew that Reina liked to bake and sharing something like this with her was good for their relationship but she was very controlling over it. “Just tell me when then…”
Are you sure you’re supposed to add that much sugar?“
“Yes. See?” he said as he handed the recipe to Kate. “I know it seems like a lot of sugar but my mom swears by these. It’s why she personally wrote the recipe down and gave it to me when I left home.” Finn went ahead and poured the sugar in the bowl. “I promise it’s going to taste great. Mom used to make these or us all the time.” He mixed it all up and let her taste a small bit of the batter. “See? Even the batter tastes good.”
❝ I found you and the baby sleeping in the recliner at six am and it was so precious. ❞
Jacob looked up at her and grinned. His princess had been the most important person in his life before his daughter was born. Now he had two princesses to protect. It was still absurd to him that he was married into the royal family but in the end Khylan had gotten what she wanted and they had been married. One year later their little princess had been born. “I figured I would give you a chance to sleep. You deserve it.” It felt like ages ago when he had been assigned to guard Princess Khylan and now he was married to the only girl he had ever been in love with. “She definitely hates clothes as much as you do,” he told her as he patted the spot next to her on their couch. “Come here. I need some love.”
“Please come here and cuddle with me and pretend that everything else doesn’t exist, I just wanna be with you for a while.”
Jacob was closer to Khylan than any other guard in her dad’s service. Of course he was her personal guard but now that they had decided to be more than just guard and princess or even friends, Jacob had taken the opportunity to get to know her even more. The day had been long and he knew that she didn’t always just love having to go and be the face behind the monarchy. She waved, smiled, took pictures, and didn’t get to do what she wanted to do. And he was with her the entire time.
“Okay,” he simply said as he crossed the room. She was in her bed in a pair of adorable pajamas and he could feel his heart beating exceptionally fast. Jacob kicked his shoes off and climbed into the bed with her. The man wrapped his arms around her and smiled as she tucked her head into his neck. “When I’m with you everything else doesn’t exist. It’s just you and me. There’s no monarchy, no guard duty, no real world. It’s just us.”
