We are more than just the past we have lived. To become the persons we are right now, countless other lives have to be killed. Every choice comes with an opportunity cost. Call them however you want: obstacles, mistakes, distractions, and even regrets. But these are the weights we will carry for the rest of our lives. Because time only moves in one direction: forward. But Nemo is not tethered to the limitations that we have. Maybe he has his own set of limitations. Time and time again we see him in the waters, even if he can’t swim. In the open waters, he can’t move, fazed by the limitless possibilities the ocean has to offer. We don’t get to see him drown, or find him washed ashore. But who would be? The ocean is vast and endless.Maybe that’s the first lesson one has to learn, if one want to swim.
